With the release of the Baltic Powers add-on, new revolutions appeared in the game. Some nations learned to use the Livonian Revolution just like the Poles. But only Poland can create a revolution of the Cossack Hetmanate… It seems to me that this revolution would be just as suitable for the Russians. Cossack culture existed in some regions of the Russian Empire. There were Cossack uprisings in the Russian Empire. This revolution is more suitable for Russia than Hungary revolution for example.
I think this has a lot of weight in present day politics. The devs are trying to distance themselves from talks like this because it can cause people to be divided on it.
What i can see is a modder attempting to create their own twist. But now it would too blurry to see this come true if the devs themselves would want to.

Meanwhile a Kazakh Khanate Civ would be an ideal rev option
Honestly, the revolutions currently available to Russia have always struck me as being completely out of place. Ideally, Russia would have Poland, Ukraine, and the Cossack Hetmanate as revolution options. Similarly, Sweden should only have Finland and Norway as revolution choices in the industrial age. The Polish revolution would be easy to implement by adding a few cards from the Polish civilization; likewise, the Norwegian revolution could incorporate Danish cards—such as Ski Troopers, among others. This approach would promote these civilizations and drive sales: anyone who owns the base game and plays with these two revolutions would likely end up purchasing the Baltic DLC to play as the full civilizations, should they wish to do so.
United States makes perfect sense for them too.
Speaking of which, does any unit in the game speak Norwegian?
I haven’t tested the Viper skin, so idk if he does.
I heard Russia controlled Finland for a while.
Also, would Sámi work as a rev?
Actually, I forgot to include Finland too; I can’t believe I forgot it.

At the very least I think Finnland should get some Sámi stuff.
He does his own voice lines and a few Norwegian units.

The Zaporozhian Sich and Hetmanate(s) (splitted to Right-bank and Left-bank ones in 1658-1704) were the only (semi-autonomous) Cossack states (of AoE III timeline) which are directly related to modern Ukraine.

I was about to make the same proposal 3 days ago. But there are both pros and contras, so I’ve considered the proposal is a matter of debates at least. There were over 10 Cossack Hosts in Russian Tsardom and Empire. Don and Yaik Cossacks took part in Smuta period, rebellions of I.Bolotnikov 1606-07, S.Razin 1670-71, K.Bulavin 1707-08, Y.Pugachov 1773-75 and others less mentionable. IMHO none of these lead to rising a new state (even semi-autonomous), even quite the opposite, the authonomy of Don Cossack Host was canceled after Bulavin rebellion, the Yaik Cossack Host was renamed to Ural C.H. and also lost its autonomy after Pugachov rebellion.
You’re right, but the point is that the Cossack Hetmanate separated from Poland, not Russia…
Still, Cossacks are a much better fit than Hungary
Agreed. However, such solution has a chance to be labelled as “politically incorrect”, “promoting the idea of disintegration for undivided Russian nation” blahblahblah, etc.
Btw, the idea of Cossacks as local identity is banned since Bolsheviks won the Civil War in Russia. So, they become considered as mere frontier military stratum (estate).
If that’s the case then whatever spineless moron at Microslop that’s mandating this needs to be shamed for being a Russian bootlicker. If they’re doing it to avoid “controversy” then the only way to make them reconsider is for it to be more controversial not to.
Well, man, IMHO, you are going too close to question of recognizing (new) national subjects on the territory of (former) multi-national state (or empire) and its consequences. I consider such matters are too serious for a mere game discussion.
Even if I was studied related matters enough through culturology, ethnography, antropology, politology etc., I’d prefer to touch such matters as little as possible. At least, in public.
Or you may DM me if you want to know more about my personal opinion on the Cossacks in Russia matter.
So a revolution? There are already dozens of those in the game. It’s not even remotely controversial.
I’m assuming by this you mean you’re Russian. If so, that’s understandable why you don’t want to state an opinion that could endanger yourself. What is not excusable is Microslop catering to Russian bs.
No, I am not Russian, however I’m quite familiar with their culture due to Soviet legacy.
I think in summary there is not enough to be claimed as revolution or current local unique indentity, because the trace of Cossacks in Russia is too insignificant after de-cossackization repressions until 1933, followed famine depopulation, further industrialization of the regions with migration of population from Cossack stanitsas to cities, further WW II, then more repressions because Cossacks in exile were the backbone of Russian collaboration with 3rd Reich. Then followed by repopulation of war-torn area with whoever agree to relocate.
However, it’s just my personal opinion. And in return I’d like to know do u think is enough remained after all these events to be a matter of talks about ethnic or cultural opression or separate identity novadays?
Who cares about nowadays? The game takes place ~1500-1900. Russia was full of Cossacks then.
Thank you for reading about my contras on the matter.
Tell us your reasons to represent e.g. Don Cossacks as separate sub-faction then.
There already is a Cossacks faction… Why would I need to justify something that’s already in the game?
