Basically the title, thats one of the worsts unique technologies in the game. Could we change it and what would be a good cuman imperial tech
Cuman Mercenaries: Team members can create 5 free Elite Kipchaks per each Castle
This always felt really off as it only affects allies, this should be a team bonus or a free civi bonus and not something you pay for.
On top of that itās a single use tech, once your 10 kipchaks are gone, they are gone. While some other single-use techs were changed to become more general (vietnamese paper money, sicilian first crusadeā¦).
How about that : Nomadic Migration : can pack buildings (except castles wonders towers and walls) in a chariot, which can be moved and unpacked (faster than it would be to build it). This would play on the nomadic style of the civ that is the first half of their campaign fleeing the Mongols. This would allow them either to relocate their economy or quickly build forward bases to put pressure on the enemy.
It affects all of the team members including the Cuman player who researches it.
Strictly speaking, itās not a single use. More Castle built, more free Elite Kipchaks.
Iād suggest that at the fist and easiest step, make those free Elite Kipchaks automatically be garrisoned in the Castle when the Castle built instead of waiting for training. In this way, at least they can add the arrow fire of the Castle even if the allies ignore or forget them.
If we can go further, Iād like to make this UT also give +1 range to CA (not affect allies). Due to the lack of Bracer, their HCA is not always considered as the main force even though the Steppe Husbantry allow it to get trained vary fast. Let the range be made up so that HCA that has a bit lower attack but can be gathered quickly in exchange would be truly decent.
I didnāt know itās now 5 per castle. Havenāt played the Cumans in a while.
If they are automatically created they count toward the pop limit even if not wanted at the moment.
Or maybe replace the Imperial UT (steppe husbandry) by the Castle age UT (Mercenaries) and improve Steppe Husbandry to make it more Imperial UT.
Having 5 Kipchaks (not Elite) at early castle age could be a real game changer.
and add a +1atk/+1def to kipchaks and cavalry archers.
As it is a kind of mercenaries, how about allow Cumans to ātributeā Kipchak to allies like tributing resources?
Either -
- A new upgrade replacing Paladin for Huns and Cumans and both Cuman Mercenaries and Atheism are replaced with new UTs that buff this unit i.e one civ gets extra HP, other one gets extra attack.
- Kipchak can be trained from Range.
- CA (excluding Kipchak) deals 25% pierce through damage. Since Cumans extra 5% speed and Castle Age UT of 100% faster product rate are totally wasted due to lack of Bracer, I think this one will compensate.
If you really donāt need the cavalry archers, send them to frontline as meat shields.
Just saying, I have thought that the free Elite Kipchaks should have their own and independent stats that wonāt be affected by the bonuses and techs of the playersā civs. And, those free Elite Kipchaks would use no population room. This way, the Vikings and the Mongols can have completely same free Elite Kipchaks. Maybe the free Elite Kipchak could be renamed to āCuman Mercenaryā to be distinguishable from the normal Elite Kipchak.
What if the kipchaks you get to train from the castle dont count towards your pop limit? That might make it more appealing?
What if, after the free 5, you could train more for a price?
Still at the Castle, the price could be the same or only gold or whatever. This would solve the one-time use issue.
I agree. Italians give a very useful anti HC units without any upgrade to all team mates that can be trained from barracks and Cumans have this shit UT⦠If other players would be able to train (Elite) Kipchaks from castle would be nice (100 wood / 35 gold instead of 60/35 would be fair.
How about allowing Kipchaks to be available from Castle but set a limit the max number of Kipchak of each ally. Perhaps 15-20?
It would be still a one time UT that is even not a game changer like it is for Burgundians
No. I mean that allow ally to produce Kipchaks at Castle but there is a max number of deploying Kipchak. Ally cannot produce more Kipchak unless it is less than the max number.
aaa I see. Yeah why not.
For historical context I like the Cuman Mercenaries and Flemish Revolution and I would be disappointed if they would be removed completely.
I also understand that a lot of people are not very happy with technologies that are an one time event.
Just to gather opinions, what if we take a page from the Chronicles and introduce mutually exclusive technologies for those civs? (I am aware that will open a whole other can of worms)
I like cuman mercenaries for the same reasons, but it would be perfectly fine if it simply allowed allies to train kipchaks. Historically there is little reasons for this tech to be a one-time event, since cumans were employed as mercenaries over a very long period in many places.
I would not like the exclusive ut, itās fun in bfg but too much with 45 civs. I would rather have 2nd uu.
Ally civs with weak CA but bloodlines and full fletching-line will be benefited the most, like Sicilians, Portuguese, Georgians, Italians, Bohemians, Chinese, Gurjaras (no CA) etc.
Ideally something that helps the civ against halb-gunpowder combos.
