Deleting your user files. For deleting your user files, you should:
a. Make sure that your Steam Cloud is disabled in Steam, AoE2 game, Properties, General.
b. Go to C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE.
c. Copy your user folder to a safe place, it has lots of numbers.
d. Delete the original folder
e. Verify your files in Steam, AoE2 game, Properties, Local Files.
f. Open the game again. A new user folder will be created.
If this works, then copy back the files from your old user folder. Those files are in the folder -C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE<0>\Savegame, Recorded Games and Save games.
I have tried it multiple times and at some point I was able to run the game properly again.
But after copying back the user folder it again didnt work. Could you elaborate further on the lasat step? What do you mean? I just copied back the whole folder. What do you mean with " those files are in the folder … "? Which files? Or do you mean that I must not copy back the whole thing but just the ones you mentioned and the rest of the files remain the ones from the recreated folder?
Additionally: The game is from microsoft store, so how should I handle the steam related steps in your list? And what do you mean with “verify your files” in step e?
*edit: But anyway, it only worked once and now basically the same problem still appears again.
So please provide a solution. This is getting ridiculous.
Sorry, my explanation wasn’t very good. Basically in that folder you can find your recorded games, savegames, mods… It might be possible that there is, for example, an outdated mod that is causing the crash.
after a lot of attempts of reinstalling, deleting user files etc. it did work again. I was able to play properly for 2 Weeks as if nothing ever happened.
Today: New Update → exact same issues again; matches dont start and the game crashes.
Interestignly: I was in 2 Multiplayer games with the new update and I have experienced insane lag which made it unplayable and forced me to resign twice in a row. And no, this was not an internet connection problem.
When I restarted the game again the same issues reoccurred from then on with 100% crash each time. I havent changed anything.
I now have the same problem with my friends too, we like to play on huge maps and conduct large-scale battles, but now the game crashes after 20 minutes, when even the truce is not over
No mods and still, this is NOT A PERFORMANCE ISSUE, i thought we had already clarified this.
After around 10 times of reinstalling the game it somehow miraculously did work again.
Today: New Update, same issues again.
Every time there is an Update the issue reoccures and it takes hours if not days to fix it by endless reinstallments.

I dont want to sound disrespectful and apeciate any support but honestly, you cant be serious!
what works for me is whenever the issue reappears I delete the AoE2 DE folder and have a copied version of the folder which has a huge number code as a name. Everytime the folder automatically gets renewed after deleting it and after reinstalling the game I reinsert it there and the game runs properly again.
The thing is: I still have to do this EVERYDAY. So each day I want to play the game I need a full reinstallment which is obviously annoying since it takes time to download. I still dont know the exact reason for this and which changes (and how frequently these are made) are responsible for the issue reappearing everytime.
