Culverin target selection is terrible

If I create 4-5 culverins and place (enemy) 5 horse, 5 infantry and 5 cannon before them, what do they attack? The HORSE! Which is the least efficient target for culverins, barely scratches the horse. Why does the culverin not target the enemy cannon, which more or less is the sole purpose of the culverin??

Any unit automatically targets the closest enemy.
If you want to use your units effectively you have to micro them.

Slight tangent, Is it true that the spies and the bersagliere target their intended counters? Tried it but couldn’t really get a satisfactory combat scene to confirm.

I know how to micro, but should this level of unit babysitting be necessary? XD

The only problem with the culverin is that it dismounts when you want to attack a unit even if it is 1 range away from its maximum range, which would be wiser to advance slowly rather than dismount to attack that unit, but for one thing The game pretends that the units do not have automatic intelligent mimicry, although it is very annoying sometimes, because there are already some special units that prioritize attacking their main objective with only attack movement, for example, the Spies and rev units or cards from Mexico, I think there’s more but I don’t remember

Yes, because if your units would automatically target the units they counter, you would hardly have to micro anything during a fight.

pikes should target cav auto too. and skirms should auto target anticav.

I feel like microing culvs well and getting those enemy arty multi kills where each culv hits a different cannon just right is one of the most satisfying things in this game, automating that would take away the feel of getting the most out of each culv shot

Given some civs have to use less ranged anti artillery such as light cannon, siege elephants, arrrow knights etc with their speed or pop/cost being their benefit, autolocking culvs on top of benefiting european players via less micro would also make some matchups late game almost impossible.

I may be biased cause i love watching ungurs dodge culvs with light cannon, but artillery duels would loose some spark. Not to mention defence due to longer los would be even harder to crack if culvs only targeted other culvs first. Just my 2cents.
