Today, AoE Wiki editor Kronocracy added information and screenshots related to two currently unused units (or their models, rather) found in the files of AoMR, the Kunoichi (female counterpart of Shinobi/Ninja) and Pirate Cyclops. I think those are really cool finds.
There are currently no corresponding units in the game, though at least the Kunoichi appears to be nearly finished in terms of graphics and there is an icon. You can view the models in the Scenario Edtior without modding by using the Model Viewer tool. Look for “kunoichi” and “pirate_cyclops”. For the Kunoichi there are also dedicated animations.
Hopefully those will be added to the game at some point.
Maybe an event related to the supposed future revival of AoE3DE? Before AoMR was around, there were occasionally events for AoE games that referenced other entries of the series.
… Heh, one is a ninja, the other one a pirate. Who would win?
The Indian elephant looks like it could be a nod to a future Indian DLC or something left over from The Asian Dynasties (probably the former)… Ram was in Tale of the Dragon, but they didn’t include it again in Immortal Pillars… Aztec Storehouse must have been planned to be included with the Aztecs before they changed it to Calpulli and it would have been somewhat redundant… and Asgardian Hill Fort Tower must have been intended for Freyr, but since it was a bit overpowered, they only kept Asgardian Hill Fort…
Yes, anything is possible… Ram is like Marco Polo’s sheep, which wasn’t only found in China, but also in Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan… so it could fit into an Indian DLC (like the Indians in AoE Online) or a Central Asian DLC (basically the Mongols/Golden Horde from AoE 4)…
Regarding the possibility of the Pirate Cyclops being related to a future event, I noticed that the skins of the 2024 Holidaze event are all in the “events” directory, while the Pirate Cyclops is found under “greek”, like the regular myth unit. Not that it has to mean anything, other internal categorisations of assets are also not always consistent.
As everyone has those models, whether they were active during the event or not, it would be nice to have them as Editor objects. Especially the pumpkins, now that we have Mesoamerican pantheon and maps. Alternate turkeys wouldn’t hurt, either, plus roast turkey and turkey relic for the fun of it.
Triggers that allow to change an object’s model would be useful…
