I just had a fun idea:
What if the new danish civilization focused on grenadiers?
A new unique and fun mechanic would be if even their villagers fired little grenades.
I think there might even be historical evidence of danes using grenades a lot (and I mean a lot).
And it would force you to micro your villagers really well - otherwise you kill all your hunts.
You need to be able to fish with the grenades. That’s a valid strategy (only in that it can work. Don’t do it, it’s probably illegal everywhere).
I think there’s speculation derived from the leaked revolution content (see below) that suggested that Denmark would have a Royal Grenadier, though it sounds to me like “Royal Grenadier” might be a unit name rather than a Royal Guard designation (though it could easily be both). IF they stick with what they had intended in the Revolution, which isn’t knowable either way until we get more information, than it looks like we get a Grenadier type unit with promotions. If they use the name more loosely it could also resemble a Giant Gren or Soldado. Personally I’d hope for a Fire-Thrower type design as normal grens are kinda niche and Otto Grens are obnoxious.
I doubt they’d do Gren Settlers (fishing jokes aside), though Settlers with promotions gained from gathering could be really interesting and was something I suggested recently after reading a post from @SirBarnzy1. See my suggestion which quotes him Here. Have said that, they’ve almost certainly already decided on economic bonuses and it seems unlikely to be this.
I wonder if there’s any room for a Rise of Nations-style Militia button for Danish Settlers? Basically every Settler could be coverted on the fly into a Snapphanar Militia-type unit and then back into a normal settler at your whim. Alternatively, maybe even an alternate Town Bell function that arms (converts) nearby Settlers?
I love that idea! They would be normal villies, but upon ringing the bell the danish villagers don’t flee into the towncenter - no, no, no. They get GRENADES!
