the three are interwined, and some interesting things happen. I specially like that, in the first scenario of Jadwiga, green player is called “suitor”, who is mentioned in the opening slide, and when you win the scenario he finally shows up and it’s Jogalia, from Algirdas and Kestutis. then in the final Jadwiga scenario, one of the mercenaries you can hire is Jan Zizka, because the battle depicted here is the same as the one in the second scenario of Jan Zizka’s campaign. funny thing: if you don’t hire him, it’s as if that other scenario doesn’t happen. it’s quite poetic.
come to think of it, age of kings’ campaigns are also interwined, but the link is weaker. at the end of barbarossa you take part in the crusades, while saladin’s campaign is all about fighting against the crusaders; also in the first scenario of Barbarossa you can hire the asian people who were displaced by the mongols from Genghis Khan’s campaign.
Dawn of the Dukes and Battle for Greece are good examples of campaigns that are interconnected but don’t follow the same person for dozens of scenarios (as is the case with Alexander and Hardrada).
Yes, the campaigns are so good that I’m going to port them to AoE 3 now that the Baltic DLC has been released… You’ll play Algirdas and Kestutis and Jadwiga with the Poles and Jan Zizka with the Germans…
And in general I’m reworking the original campaigns to make them more historically accurate (the Tutorial, Blood with Maltese, Ice with British and Haudenousaunee, and Steel, Fire and Shadow with the United States multiplayer civilization) (I’ll see if I do the same with the TAD campaigns later) and obviously I’ll be gradually porting the AoE 2 campaigns (Algirdas and Kestutis, Jadwiga and Jan Zizka) (although to celebrate Columbus Day on October 12th I could port the American campaigns of Pachacuti, Moctezuma and Almeida)…
