Demeter Feedback Thread: What you liked, what you'd change?

Mostly AI, with few original choices mixed in like the 4th age GP and other things to cater to more casual players.

There are some techs that don’t match each other at all like the 50% cheaper farms and the faster construction near goldmine, or the herdables bonus that boosts favor which conflicts with Lycaons’ faster gathering bonus from such herdables.

I played a few games tonight and I feel like, what’s the point of picking her over any other Greek god? Besides Lakyon, there are no other myth units worth investing in, so why even take her? All I’m playing as is a weaker, more boring version of the other Greek gods.

I really try to find reasons to understand this god, but I simply can’t. Developers, if you see this by any chance, please address these issues with her.

She is sort of a weaker greek early on with a better late game. The harshness of getting in a good state into that late game is whats tricky, specially when half her things work clunky

Hamas and Sirens are so pathetically weak that I don’t understand the direction with them

I was thinking of alternatives/ modifications to Demeter’s bonuses. My idea: get rid of the quick build near gold mines (which thematically makes no sense) and add to the hearables bonus. In additional to increasing favour gather rates, each nearby herdable should decrease the cost of MUs by 3% stacking up to 10. This would be a better bonus IMO and be more in line with the other Greek god’s nod to MUS.

Also more and better-designed bonuses related to farms would be appreciated.

Playing with this civilization doesn’t really capture the feeling of playing the goddess of agriculture, at least for me; it feels more like a hybrid Egyptians/Hades/Zeus.

Its bonuses encourage you to build fewer farms than any other civilization, which feels like a contradiction.

Shouldn’t these “bountiful farms” be much larger than normal farms since two people are working on them instead of one?

Boit summarized all the issues with the goddess perfectly:

watched it. i think its greatly worded and constructive and fair criticism. maybe sometimnes still a bit too nicely worded but i understand the intension and really hope the devs understand it the right way and maybe serious drastic adjustments (especially if they didn’t see the ideas/suggestions here and on reddit). and boit is the goat of aom content anyway so i think they at least should value his feedback/constructive criticism accordingly. (i just think he should have mentioned amazon as a “tiger cav” like fort unit and maybe a different mythic age myth unit but otherwise i am personally pretty happy what he said.)

I had a detailed look at Demeter’s heroes. I’ve got to say overall they are really disappointing  so many miss opportunities.

Orpheus: Having him in the game alive (after having only his head in the game for the last 20 years) is awesome. He’s my favourite out of them all. Solid pick. I also like that they made him more of a support unit hero, makes him very unique. 10/10

Iolaus: This guy is seriously disappointing for so many reasons. Firstly, I have no idea who the hell he was until I researched him. He’s a generic Geek hero, but he’s seriously unimaginative. His model is missing the vfx weapon effects the other heroes have. He has random bow twang sounds when throwing a spear?? Which I found out is because he’s just a directly reskinned Chariot Archer, they couldn’t even be bothered fixing the sounds. What’s with the weird looking tattooed horse that looks like it escape from an episode of My Little Pony. This is such a missed opportunity for a more interesting and unique Greek hero people also care about. 0/10

Icarus: An interesting hero. I like him, but I get why others don’t. Having a flying hero unit could be OPed, especially when it comes to collecting relics on naval maps. From the game files I can see he was originally supposed to be the classical age hero, but this was likely changed to reduce balancing issues. His model looks good. But same random bow twang sounds with his attacks? He also throws flaming stones? WTH is that attack supposed to be? 8/10

Kind Midas: I like the idea of an out of the box hero, he’s definitely unique. I love his special ability, and the effort that went into making it. But having to deal 700 damage and land the killing blow means you probably won’t get much use out of it. But that being said, maybe another major Greek hero would have been better? 8/10

Overall, I feel there’s so much missed opportunities for a more interesting, diverse and recognisable group of Greek heroes. I would have liked to see more female heroes represented for a Major Greek goddess. Medea immediately spring to mind :woman_shrugging:

Aye I agree with you in general. I think Orpheus as a support Archaic hero is good, does his job decent enough and a support hero is a nice twist. Iolaus is pointless - there’s really nothing to him. Pentesilea on horseback would’ve been a much better option for a fast classical, make her a glass cannon - hard hitting but can’t take much punishment. Icarus as a flying hero in Heroic, I agree with, but could do with some tweaking. And Midas is….meh. Not really a ‘hero’ in Greek mythology, more a cautionary tale, and his ability is very average. Turning a unit into a small goldmine after X amount of damage - unless this happens in your base it’s rather useless. And stat wise he’s by far the weakest of the Mythic Heroes. Someone like Hector, Cadmus or Diomedes would’ve been far, far more suitable here. Give them some sort of strong ability like the other three and stats to match.

but i agree. there would have been better choices but i knew immediately who he was. (it seems nearly to no one watched hercules series :downcast_face_with_sweat: )

about Orpheus i agree but maybe a bit too strong with his aura. I also agree with Icarus.
King Midas i was first disappointed till i knew he could make units into cool gold statues. but this happens way too rare. but i like the sword and the beard he wields. glad they tried to buff him and make his gold special more frequent.
