Demolition Ship rework idea

What if we simplify the Demolition Ship line.

  1. Remove Demolition Raft
  2. Rename and reskin the Demolition Ship to Incendiary Ship (from Chronicles)
  3. Chemistry automatically upgrades it to Heavy Demolition Ship (for all civs that have it in their techtree)

This would remove 2 technologies from the game that you have to research to upgrade your navy and it unlocks 1 more icon in the UI.

Also removes the illogical thing of none gun powder civilisations having a ship filled with gun powder.

This change would give Turks a free Heavy Demo Ship upgrade so why do you complain?

For civs that don’t have gunpowder, it could be reskinned to be a flaming ship, similar to the flaming camel. This was done quite often before gunpowder (the battle of Red Cliffs in China, the Vandals used it several times against the Romans…). Problem solved.

The confusing part is it’s called “fire ship” which is a name already used for the flamethrower ship.

This is what Chronicles does, they call them Incendiary Ships

Yes it is, and this boat still use in several civ. So sad when viking lost it.

The demolition ships are not gunpowder units in the game.

Totally agree. Those separate upgrades are totally unnecessary.

But i think all ships should be more expensive in general. I mean land units should be more cost effective against them so that shallow water hybrid maps are not dominated by water play. (shipbuilding is expensive stuff.)

Also split docs to two buildings.
Dock(economic) and shipyard(warfare)

I know they don’t have a gunpowder tag but Demolition Ships and Petards are obviously using Gunpowder.

I agree. They should be a lot more expensive but also stronger in my opinion.

It’s really strange that the massive Galleon costs way less then like an Elephant despite it being like 5x the size.

Can’t wait to play with Spanish 18% faster firing Demolition Ships and Petards.

lol demolition ships faster firing? wut bro?

I don’t want to see Demolition Ships more often. They are fine as it is.

I think it makes sense that simple units like Petards or Demolition ships don’t benefit from normal gunpowder bonuses. It doesn’t take engineering to fill barrels with gunpowder, making a gun or cannon is the hard part.

I disagree and like some people already suggested in the forums, the Demolition line upgrades, should be bundled with the medium warships and heavy war ships (respectively) . Demolition ships are still warships and make sense if its upgraded in the same time, especially since the demolition line gets nerfed and will become even more niche\situational unit. So having to be upgraded alone, it’s a waste of resources and time.

The illogical thing you describe, about non gunpowder civs having a ship with gun powder, the same happens about the petard, all civs got it, and I don’t see be removed or reskinned either.

What can be done to remedy the issue and improve immersion is a hypothetical and frequently asked, skin pack DLC (optional and toggleable) with reskins some common units and ships to more appropriate skins for some cultures.

But the demolition line isnt really that important anymore, removing it from feudal would give the player another option instantly upon hitting castle age to help clear out the enemies massed feudal-age ships. Could act like a comeback mechanic for those who didnt invest heavily into water and did a fast castle.

Also I like having Demolition Ship as a sea version of siege weapons like the mangonel.

Though I don’t agree with chemistry for upgrading the ship as it doesn’t really make sense (no other unit becomes upgraded version from a tech), and I think it having its own separate upgrade is fine as that would be where the UU Ship upgrade is.

Also on a separate note, it would be funny if they increased the damage bonus of demolition ships even more vs buildings. I want sea petards nuking military docks
