Normal people: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
AoE2 fans: If it ain’t broke but it isn’t designed in exactly the way I would have designed it, make significant arbitrary changes until it is.
Unfortunately the devs have taken this attitude recently too.
Varangian Guard doesn’t make sense as a unique unit for Varangians – it would have to be for Byzantines. (Not that I think Byzantines should have them either.) Varangian Guardsmen weren’t even necessarily Varangian – many of them were Anglo-Saxon.
Moreover, I don’t understand the motivation for this “split”. Why would I want Vikings to split into Garbled Vikings and Bad Vikings?
