I think by civil they meant “no threats”. Review bombing is civil so long as the context isn’t threatening anything more than withdrawal of purchases.
You can keep the moral highground if you don’t resort to insults and angry rants. That will also prevent any mod/dev from finding a valid reason to ban/remove/silence us. “Review bombing” with valid reasons and quality posts is not even “review bombing”. Additionally, don’t be ashamed of creating more threads and engaging in existing ones. The more vocal we get, the more attention they will pay us.
One thing I was going to say was “don’t engage with media about the 3K civs in ranked” but that’s already happening!
Lots of content creator’s videos have thousands fewer viewers for the videos covering the Wei, Wu & Shu than they do for the Khitans and Jurchens. It’s actually crazy just how many people are not just mad, but actively disengaged with this DLC and potentially the game as a whole because of this blunder.
Some gaps are as high as 18K (for one of the most popular youtubers). That’s a LOT of people who just do not want to even think about these things in ranked.
Oh, I consider review bombing as the community actively fighting the devs. Specially when a lot of companies pay journalists to create articles about how the review bombs are always unfair and full of people sending death threats to the devs.
Good to know, I purposedly do the same thing. Also, i’m again out of likes, so I’ll give you one in 13 hours, when I’m able to again 11.
Also, in the last 5 hours, there have been only 4 new reviews of 3K in total on steam, as well as it’s fallen down to 74th place of top sellers. That means that such a “massive” and “well promoted” DLC has been a significant let down, compared to others… “top seller” my bottom.
Gotta say yeah a few reviews (I noticed some in Chinese) feels unnecessarily nasty and personal.
I confess I’m one of them. FWIW, I also disengage with Battle for Greece stuff, aoe3 & 4 stuff. But I don’t hate them as they don’t affect me. I even thought they are decent games for what they are.
The reason is very simple, as long as the revenue cannot be balanced, they must consider the consequences the next time they want to do the same thing.
I have read some positive comments, some of which are meaningless boasting, while others are clearly dissatisfied, but give positive reviews out of sympathy and other reasons. So in reality, there should be more negative comments. I hope to remind these people that if they are really dissatisfied, they should directly express their attitude and position, so as to save AOE2, rather than just accepting it blindly.
I do not leave a negative feedback because I have not bought the DLC yet.
I bought it, left a negative review and requested a refund. Refund request was approved in 2 hours.
my mod to add 5 East Asian civs
Which 5? Because I’ve just posted my first non-Han Chinese civ preliminary in my thread on a series of China-Region DLCs, and it’s Dali… well, if age-coupled name switches are allowed, Nanman/Cuanman/Nanzhao/Dali obviously, with trigger-relabels for campaign use.
It’ll be interesting to see how you envision your civs, as I’ll almost certainly have them all by the time I’m done working through my list.
Thread here: (though DLC layout is a bit outdated already after I had to split Western and Eastern Han):
Alright guys, the first non-Han Chinese civ idea. Please advise on balancing problems, smaller issues might be a matter of numbers, but any major things should be corrected ASAP before the Edit button vanishes. Dali / 大理 (Nanman/Cuanman/Nanzhao/Dali if possible) If possible, the default civ name displayed should change with each Age Up (override by trigger for campaign missions of course). Regardless, it’s this lineage in the Southwest. As Dali was concurrent with Song China and conquered as pa…

Tibetans, Tanguts, Khitans, Jurchens and Bai.
You will be able to see the civ designs in-full on the 18th via a live-stream ![]()
Can someone invite Cysion to this?
invite Cysion
I’d assume he is well aware of the situation. No need to tag people, as that can be more of a hinderance than a help as it can be seen as annoying.
On a separate note. I do wonder WHY none of the 3K stuff was hinted at, outside of a small picture of Kongming (who could just have been for a Chinese or Bai campaign). Like, why hide so much of it? I know the more cynical answer is “they knew it would be poorly received”, but I think it’s likely they thought it would be well-received, like a “oh this is a cool surprise”. Like “Oh we thought it would be just a 2-civ DLC with Jurchens and Khitans, but look at this extra stuff!”.
Clearly…that was not the case. And it’s funny looking back just how poorly the Khitans and Jurchens are treated in this DLC.
Now I’m left wondering what the response was internally when it dawned on them just how much this DLC was detested. Like, expecting people to be happy about it and instead seeing the complete opposite. If they genuinely thought this would go down well, then hopefully we will see concessions and changes, as if you’re passionate about the game (which I hope the devs still are), seeing people hate a DLC so much that they leave is probably a kick in the teeth. And hopefully they are planning to try and sort things out.
The Helldivers 2 steam review bombing campaign is still the most glorious gamer moment, at least in recent years for me.
AoE4 variant civs got renamed after community feedback (Sultan’s Army > Ayyubid, Empire of Jade > Zhu Xi’s Legacy) is also great, but sadly, we didn’t get similar treatment for AoE2.

Easy: Because 3K might be a DLC for Chronicles from begining, but the manager and business department think like “why we don’t combined 2 DLC to 1 and made those available for rank? iT wiLL HeLp iMPrOvE pRoFiT beCaUsE tHrEe KiNgd0ms iS veRy fAmOus AnD pEopLe wiLL liKe iT m0rE ThAN another n0mAd cIvs”
At least, The Jurchen are still themselves like in history lol. Look at the Khitanguts hahaha

How evil… But I like it. Lol

Playing a DLC does not increase a DLC playtime, but a main game playtime, so you can buy it, play it for a week or two (i.e. get all the achievements and wil all the campaigns), leave a negative review, and refund it.
wil all the campaigns
I am not even motivated to play new campaigns with wizard casting a storm. Lol
