2010 and now is 13 years. by now, grid layout should already be at mastery level. plus you don’t really need to be a genius to have grid worked out and mastered. its pretty straight forward. for modern games, i think its only aoe4 where i eventually switched to custom. grid has its limits.
They haven’t done it before. If they have, please point to the game because it’d be news to me!
Like, I don’t care about your attempts at amateur psych, or you banging on about the map name for whatever reason. Adding a map name isn’t developing a modern remappable hotkey system. I know why you’re going on about it (why didn’t they add it before now, lazy devs, etc), I just don’t care because it’s not the same thing as what’s going on with hotkeys.
I came in here explicitly to talk about the perceived difference in priorities r.e. balance and QoL features, and you keep on wanting to make it about how I’m defending the devs because hotkeys don’t work properly, when I’m not lol. Hotkeys don’t always work properly. They should.
The other thread reached near 200 pages because it became repetitive with you trying to assert things you clearly do not understand despite everyone telling you how and why you are incorrect, while in denial of course.
You are doing the very same thing here.
I’ll repeat for one last time, this has nothing to do with modern hotkey system or not. The system is already in existence, in place and it works. They simply didn’t add certain units/buildings to the list. Before we move on (prefer you don’t), you will test and acknowledge this so that we shall not repeat this over and over or stop talking like you know what you’re talking about because you clearly don’t and you don’t because you haven’t tested. In case you miss whats said again. I shall repeat a few more times.

Even if you are plenty experienced at things not working properly with ‘modern’ development, you might find it very difficult to understand… for things to work like “they should”, its really a matter of adding “mali.cattle.customkey” or “mali.towncenter.warriorscout.customkey” versus not having them in existence or using the “global.tc.ageup.customkey” instead of having a separate “mali.towncenter.ageup” (and yes i literally mean it, go test it before you talk more nonsense… and this is what i mean by sloppy)
The difficulty level of adding a couple of variables, even if its multiple lines versus ###### # ##### scenario editor or making a new civ is relatively simple. It’s very similar to adding $mapname to loading screen, which might be arguably harder because you still need to position the text and specify attributes like font.
and this modern remappable hotkey system is still garbage compared to sc2, a much older game, so stop it with the “modern = complex” nonsense, while not said here, this i am deriving from past conversations.
And if you must say “hotkeys dont always work properly”, this goes back to the question of diligence, which might not be important to you or line of work, but I find it important for a $60 rts title.
Now, this is my thread of my attempt to get hotkeys fixed, and if you aren’t going to at least test the hotkeys to understand whats been said before making comments, please just stop talking.
Except it doesn’t work properly, or else you wouldn’t have made the thread.
Oh, wait.
Fixed? You mean it doesn’t work? Huh.
I agree that it doesn’t work properly! I want it to work better! I want it to be fixed!
You just want to keep making things up about me to justify some personal cross-thread nonsense. That’s what I don’t care about ![]()
I know, I know. You think the hotkey system is fine and they just didn’t bother to put some keybinds in. You’re welcome to that opinion. You can’t force anyone to agree. I don’t agree. I gave my opinion (this is the first time Relic have developed a system like this). You don’t have to agree.
But respect for different opinions would be nice.
So you are still formulating opinions without testing? And you wonder why just about everyone do not agree with your assertions, sorry I mean opinions.
Respect is earned, not given.
AoE3 has the same problem, I don’t understand why it is so difficult to fix the keybindings. Maybe because fixing these small bugs won’t make money, the work never gets into their schedule.
After all, compared to the benefits brought by the development of the host version of AoE4, it is not profitable to fix the keybindingss of the PC version.
I’ve tested. Not sure what this means. You have no idea what I do, and I’m cool with that.
I agree that the system is not working. I agree it should be fixed. But you’re telling me it needs fixing, but that it also isn’t broken.
And then you go:
So, sure. Have fun making up enemies to argue with, even when they actually want the same things fixed you do. I’m sure it’ll work out for you ![]()
Shouldn’t you say that to yourself than me or anyone else? Did you already so quickly forget you were 1vX in that thread that was needlessly extended to near 200 posts?
If you cannot see the issues in custom hotkeys here and know what the issues are about, I really do not think you’re a developer at all.
and I do have a rough idea on how you do things though.
The hotkeys in aoe4 are garbage compared to AoEO. No amount of forum ink can change this.
I don’t really care whether it is because they are unable to match the franchise baseline or because they are unwilling to do so.
If the former, then they failed to devote enough resources and planning to design an Age game. If the latter, then they should never have been entrusted to do so.
I simply want to press H to build a gd House.
the grid system has been used by coh2 players, for over 8 years with no complaints. How a new player who wants to improve on the ladder will feel and must use the entire keyboard, instead of the same 12 keys on the grid, also aoe4 is more friendly since in coh2 you should use F1 to F5 while in aoe4 you use the letters q w e r, therefore you have your hand most of the time on the same keys, that is facilitating the player in his learning curve of an RTS game.
I invite you to join the progress and finally, the players of the old versions have not changed to aoe4, so why should the franchise have as its first priority to please especially you?
What is CoH? I play Age of Empires. Just let all of us set our hotkeys how we want them. Eyes on the ball. This is about giving us the same flexibility we had already. I don’t care if you want to use a grid, so please don’t care if I don’t.
ok, you can request what you want, but according to me, adding a deprecated hotkey system is not first priority, bye
but for aoe plñayer it does. even is laughful that coh 2 you cant change grind and you need an extensive and coding tutorial to change hotkeys. why aoe 4 is almost the same level as this one. that one goes to you @GorbMort . this is aoe not your usual coh. if you want that treatment go back to your game but here its the current standard that most ppl understand and accepted since the dawn of this franchise and is a shame that is getting rejected because the new player influx taste which most of them already left.
the game started with a peak of 73 thousand, lately it has had a peak of 15 thousand for several months, and it is not because of aoe2 players, bye
true but its because the game still mediocre and other games outside rts are betetr picks and have an fresh hype. Also there an future big drop in the next month playerbase count because its getting lower at 10 k so far, bye
I have been using grid for a whole year and I find its not good enough, now that i’ve switched to custom, despite all the bugs I’m just doing better.
bye
Also there are some players from old series who simply want to press h-c and can’t adapt… and so they change the grid instead.
It took me a whole 1-2 weeks to adapt to custom keys, breaking and changing was painful to me and some people aren’t as willing as i to suffer such pain.
Last time I was “accused” of “asking for something because I want it”. Not on this subforum though. But I thought it was a joke.
Now I realize. It is really an accusation. There are really people who literally hate it when others getting an option they want.
so both are declining. aoe 3 still has an normal influx
