I’ve had this game in my library for quite some time and i’ve just now brought myself to play a little.
I suffer from extreme nostalgia and, to put it bluntly, really enjoy and care for this game.
I decide to boot up the tutorial, y’know, see how a new coat of paint changed things up. The Celts, we’ve gotta stop the Britons from “terrorising all of Scotland!”
Wait… Whos this?
They sound so… bored, unmotivated, uninterested.
That’s not… That’s not right at all.
They- they didn’t, did they?
They changed the VA for the Celt’s tutorial campaign.
I stopped playing instantly to go look at old videos with the OG VA.
Please, go do so yourself. Especially if you’ve never played the original (or HD edition) versions of AoE II. you have no idea what you’re missing out on.
The passion, the fury, the Scottish! It all just works and it’s perfect.
I wouldn’t have changed anything about this, recast him if you will.
There’s no passion, no fear, just… nothing. For someone who’s land is being invaded and desecrated by the britons, you’re sure as hell chill about it.
I find it quite funny that someone would complain about this. When AoK was new, I thought the narration for the William Wallace campaign was terrible, and I remember making fun of it with some of my friends – especially the unconvincing attempt at a Scottish accent.
It was stupid, and so were many illustrations. It also was full of energy and personality
Some of the illustrations are straight-up traced, which could be a copyright infringement. The in-campaign illustration isn’t well known outside the game itself, however, so the original artist of those infringed arts wouldn’t have known.
