Will there be dlc for the game? what do you guys think?
It’s way too early to say anything certain about DLC before the game is even out. It is possible if the game sells well enough, but as long as the game stays Windows Store exlusive, I have my doubts on that.
Personally I would like to see the developers work on a new Age of Empires game instead of working on expansions to a 20 year old game.

Don’t think so. AoE doesn’t have that legion of online players that AoE II HD had when they started working on African Kingdoms and Rise of the Rajas, and in addition, looking on AoE civilizations, I don’t think they can add more ‘‘important’’ civs without breaking historical-importance-chronological balance of the game.
And I have to say, I would be fine without DLCs… but if they finally release AoE DE on Steam someday, MUST have Workshop!!

There are no Indian civilizations in AoE1, even though there were many important civilizations there during the AoE1 timeline. And considering something like Palmyra is in, the bar is not set very high when it comes to importance. There’s definitely plenty of room to add new civilizations, but I agree that it’s not necessary. I would also rather see them make AoE4 instead.
I don’t agree that there aren’t interesting civs to add…if you can have the Romans why can’t you have concurrent civs like the Olmec in the Americas, the Gauls, the Celts, the Germans or the Kingdom of Israel which had a substantial territory around 1000 BC etc.
DLC is often an excuse to make an incomplete game. Certainly not always, and in the case of a remaster like this, I’d have tolerance for it. One thing I despise is a game that is clearly lacking content and you have to complete it by buying a half dozen DLC packs.
For DE, I’d probably be satisfied with the game as is with no need for additional civs or units. That said, I own all the AOE2HD expansions… so anything is possible.
Hopefully. They will only invest in DLC if the game is successful and enjoys a active community. Them making DLC is therefore a good sign. It will also mean continued support.

Well, you have a point. I really would love to see some harappan culture and ancient India and south-east Asia inhabitants. But really don’t think they will work on some AoE DLC…
But now I think some other surprising civilizations they could include too… what about Tartessos? We know very few of them, but in last years they have been studied and investigated, and several ruins and remnants were found in south Spain. And a good other faction can be the ancient iberians, and some nubians maybe… I have to say that you started convincing me about a possible DLC

Nubians would be great for sure. They are actually featured several times in the Egyptian campaign, but they don’t have their own dedicated Civ or building set, instead they are represented by other Civs that are renamed for the purposes of those missions.

At least Nubians are related to some of the civs in the game and the buildings don’t look too bad for them. For me the biggest eyesore was when they used something like the Assyrians for Gauls and Britons in the Roman campaign. That was too much off to keep even the slightest bit of immersion alive.
DLC would definitely be considered but probably much further down the road.

Haha, well yes fair point. The problem with adding germanic tribes though is that they don’t really fit with the whole ‘ancient empire’ theme aoe1 got going, even if they do intersect with the timeline.
I would like to have a DLC, I think it would be very interesting to have new civilizations (yes, there are many others besides those already in the game) and new maps with real locations would give a refresh to the game.

They need a developer team like ES or Robot Entertainment.
Highly likely.
