I think it shows that the-powers-that-be really pander towards AOE2 fanbase. It is not a “right” but a privilage in the sence that it really don’t saves AoE2 players any significant ammount of work but it does make the other game’s players experience worse.

I can only assume one or more of the following reasons as to why they don’t pick the first game in the list (AoE 1 DE) and default to AoE 2 instead:

  • AoE 1 DE has been made obsolete with Return of Rome
  • AoE 1 DE does not have an ingame mod browser
  • AoE 2 is by far the most played game
  • Most use the ingame mod browser in the respective games

when you join the Official™ discord if you select that you’re interested in aoe3 it automatically signs you up into the aoe2 sections too.

I think the “normal” thing would have been to ask first what game is the person interested in, instead of dumping them directly in Age 2 Mods and then make them navigate from there.
