they should give the elephant archer to burmese. this could help the civs weakness against archers imo. Of course Howdah (+1/+1) and their new civ bonus (+1/+1) should affect them. Archers and skirms would still be awful for burmese and elphants could be viable cause they also have access to parthian tactics (which had no use at all for burmese). Burmese Elephant archers would have 0+3/2+5 armor, which looks alright to me ![]()
I agree, the SEA civs could also get Elephant Archers, with their bonuses/techs affecting those too. With nerfs to the now-regional Elephant Archers, each existing SEA civ could add their own interesting flavours to EAs too. Perhaps Tusk Swords might remain only for BEs though, but Chatras or Howdah (or even Malay discount!?) could affect EAs too.
Vietnamese eles would be pretty though with both the bonus and the UT ngl
But honestly I think while the other civs could get eles, Malay better not have them.
For Burmese maybe, but there is no reason to do that for the other 3. Whatâs the point of buffing ballista eles if Khmer get almost perfect ele archers, Vietnamese ele archers would probably have too much HP and make rattans/imp skirms redundant, Malay would receive a high HP high PA unit (which they donât have for good reasons) and adding the discount on top would be absolute insanity.
I mean similarly, what is the point of buffing Ballista Eles when Khmer get perfect Battle Elephants. While somewhat more similar in function, I donât think they serve as much of a similar function. Rattans or Imp Skirms are also much cheaper and easier to mass, costing different resources as well.
Malay true, I just saw that they lacked PT, but probably the discount would be too much - otherwise I donât think theyâd be that strong.
Would the elephant archers replace cavalry archer as well?
If so, then I would only give them to burmese. Khmer also lack thumbring but I am not sure they need EA.
lol no civ âneedsâ EA seeing how they were comically underpowered for so long and now have even worse stats than when they were completely unplayable
If they are so underpowered as you claim (and you might be right), then EA can be buffed in future patches (as CA were in the early patches of AOE2DE). Thus, the addition of EA could be handy for them.
Burmese EA looks interesting to me even in their current state
True
But EA addition wont mean anything as of now given the stats of the new EA
Already proven they are cost effectivd counter to archers, which is exactly what burmese really need.
Yeah but a crossbow/arb player surely has a few skirms or pikes on the field, both of which WRECK elephant archers
So mix in a few light cav to laugh at the skirms.
As if EA donât already use up all the food by costing 90F and 70G
On top of that you suggest going Light Cav costing 80F
Your food eco must be god tier, even better then Viper playing as Slavs
And LC die to pikes
Considering i said âcost effectively beat archersâ, if you can afford to mix in enough skirms to be a real threat, they can easily afford enough light cav to work on those.
Burmese also have very good champs against pikes or skirms.
So now your army is arb + skirm + pike. Why would i bother going ea against you to begin with.
The assumption if im going ea is you startrd with mass archer so i went to mass ea. If im forcing you to double transition out of that id say im winning already.
Well, in black forest is not uncommon to collect tons of food, like in rageforest3. In that cirvunstances, even the current verion of EA may have a chance
Current ea dominates closed maps like black forest. Just check rage forest
In my games they usually donât.
A lot of people at my level just spam a single gold unit. Me too a lot of the time.
With the new stats, I donât think EA has anything to offer Burmese. They are still very good to archers. But -7 negative CA armor wonât help much as archer player will mix some skirmishers which is also good against Arambai as well.
