Empire Wars is dead

I much preferred death match and I don’t think it’s fair that death match doesn’t have its own ranked queue.
I get it, red bull obviously popularised it, but I still don’t think it deserves its own ranked queue

Seriously, it doesn’t have its own ranked queued? The one from AOE3 does have it and it is really inactive.

Isn’t aoe3 in general pretty inactive though? :joy:

Well, there you realize how inactive empire wars is in aoe3 xD

DM has small playerbase (had 1-2k playerbase, depending on tourneys happening during the year) → take the matchmaking out → only hardcore players keep playing → 100-150 ranked matches/day when community is active, like last year when DMWC5 was announced → “too small to have a matchmaking system”.

For TG, I rather the lobby system; but to 1v1 its horrible.

More or less… ranked is played more in general and then free players in normal games…

Just an average AOE 2 fan here
Speak for yourself dude!
The fact that you do not like that game or that game mode is just your biased opinion

Er… what? I don’t see any implication that NastyHigh dislikes AoE III or Empire Wars. If he does dislike it/them, then alright, but asking if AoE III is inactive (especially compared to AoE II, which has far more players) is not an indication of shunning.

If I’m not mistaken, Deathmatch was just as active as Empire Wars before matchmaking for it was removed.
In general, in 2023 and beyond, people don’t really want to bother with ranked lobbies anymore which is why Return of Rome sadly wasn’t ever able to take off despite being the best version of AoE 1 yet.

It’s just a bit bellow in playerbase, even though it was very active indeed

Yes, that is, AoE 3 will not have as much popularity and will be there floating in indifference; but at least it is alive, not like AoE 1 or RoR which are very dead…

You just made that game so bad that this is the result
In fact, if these quality of life changes were made the state of AOE DE 1 would be different.

Remaking that game as part of AOE II DE, bad
But not delivering those changes in AOE I DE from the very beginning, even worst

The “Dev agent” under his name is an inside joke. He’s a mod, not a developer 11

Death Match is more about fun. I don’t see the point to put it back in competitive games. The one clicking faster win the game…

About Empires War, I like it much more but I think it needs some update of the rules. Too many players still don’t understand that EW is about fighting at Feudal age. So many players in team games EW are still trying to fast castle (even when they are flank), which means loosing the game 99% chance.

EW needs some mechanics to play Feudal Age (Make Castle age impossible during 10 min ? Giving 2 or 3 scoots instead of one at the start with less ressources ? Or maybe a team target that needs army and give access to next age ? any other idea welcome ?).

I’m not a developer. As emraz pointed out, “Dev Agent” is an inside joke. The actual devs have the Forgotten logo next to their avatar

The best DMer has the incredible 50 eAPM and is known for NOT rushing. Btw, he was not an RMer also, but a DM Michi player before DE.
Maybe you know DM as much as those you say that play EW wrongly, who knows ¯\(ツ)

Replace Empire Wars with 9 villager start. That is much much better option and cuts few minutes of game beforehand.

Honestly they should’ve just made Return To Rome a free update to AOE2DE for AOE1DE owners. Its still quite scummy how they wanted to get away with few touch ups and charge players for it.
Or just simply do R@W mod like DLC. There could’ve been so much potential with this.
To attract vietnamese players, they should’ve actually done something like special localization price for them to buy the game. M$ marketing forgot people still use decades old Pentium Processor there.

I wouldn’t do this, as it needlessly divides the player base. Especially since the majority of players is probably fine to play both if need be. So where do you queue?

I think having one single queue would be much better, but one could argue for having a few specific maps that start with different initial resources / number of vills / available buildings / whatever. We already have the Fortress map that does something along these lines. If someone then does not like these maps, just ban them.

Alternatively one could have a checkbox similar to random civ: If both select it (for 1v1) it’s 9 vill start, otherwise 3 vill. This would just require the type of start to be very visible on the launching screen.

This too. They should just bring all into under one queue and select in between. Also why can’t I even leave the UI? Like I want to change graphics or hotkeys while queued. Changing screen shows leaving queue like wth. Are devs even listening to this? It’s been like this from start
