Estia's design

Even if we accept the premise that the ancient Greeks and us had VASTLY different beauty standarts (Which, sure, they might differ somewhat, but not to the point they’d puke at what we’d drool over or vice versa. More like what we’d consider a 7 or 8 what they’d call a 10 and vice versa. If at all.)
What’s on the portraits doesn’t meet the description for “superhumanly beautiful” for neither beauty standard.
Therefore, this doesn’t have anything to do with anything.

Not only Hestia, all Demeter Gods Pack portraits are pretty flawed

Maybe Persephone not that bad after all!

I’m not claiming to know what the Ancient Greeks’ beauty standards actually were, only that it’s unlikely that they were identical to that of the modern cosmopolitan world. I understand being concerned with the art quality, I’m not saying there’s no criticism to be made there. However, the compulsive need to make all the women hotter seems to be of a different motivation from attempting to best capture the themes of each of the gods in their respective portraits. I sympathise with the latter, I don’t sympathise with the former.

I feel the problem with the “Sex appeal” of this Photo is the lighting and the Veil:

Veil.- Part of her hair isn’t visible because the veil covers it, making her face look more triangular than it is. In fact, veils were made precisely to hide the face and beauty of those who wear them.

Fire.- Also the fire highlights the face too much from below, as if one were telling stories at night with a lamp underneath.

Hestia was the goddess of chastity and the hearth fire, so it makes sense that her image is not for posing attractively.

In any case, here is an image without the veil and without the fire effect:

Beautiful!

Well, we can also can use mods to create your own god portrait.

The is one with the god version portrait of the game HADES:

Or even the nordic gods of “Destripando la historia” with Pasco and Rodri:

In my case, I only met Hestia when I saw the Danmachi anime.

There is also the Hestia version of “Destripando la Historia”:

And Hades 2… no, no, NO, let’s just forget about that one. Let’s pretend it never existed.

I still prefer the original image without the veil:

Beautiful!

If that was what I’m after, I’d also be complaining about Amanra. I’m not. I didn’t imagine her to look like she does in Retold, when I played the original, but there’s no reason for her not to look like that.
When it comes to Gods, especially Greek ones, that’s an entirely different story. And I’m using the female ones as example, since they’re obvious.
But I won’t pretend Hades looks like he’s supposed to, according to mythology.
And it’s not like the original portraits were better in all cases.

I’m really just pushing back against what I see as an overcorrection from the perceived “wokeness” of how women are depicted in games. I detected it elsewhere in this thread, I don’t think it applies to you.

We all know the developers plan to “sell” new god portraits through weekly events. So they’re trying to get rid of the default ones. However, they crossed the line this time.

This looks like the work of a novice artist, not a professional one.

I’m not an artist, so I won’t comment on art quality.

You can look at Tsukuyomi’s portraits. Any of them.

They should make the portraits for all the gods more handsome, charming, or sexy, and anthropomorphize the non-human gods.

Please take more reference from anime styles. Pan should be a Bishounen.

I really love the art for Amaterasu and Ame-no-Uzume! I’m a fan of Demeter’s art too! :star_struck:

Hm…

let me think about that…

hm…

no - no, i don’t think so.

 jokes aside if you want a more serious answer: most of the time i actually don’t. only when i think it fits the specific god/goddess. like e.g. Aphrodite, Demeter and also, yes, Hestia. otherwise no but interesting that you came to that conclusion. i even tell you why - what i assume you want to know  -
First of all when i write those prompts and want curves i specifically write something like “a rubenesque/curvaceous figure/bodyshape which elevates/(emphasizes on) X feature/status as X god.”
not only cause i am a fan of Paul Rubens art, and also not only cause i think it fits the more antique style of bodyshapes but also cause - as mentioned - i think it fits the specific character. I also wanted to make Demeter even more curvy - shocking for you maybe, but i actually give it several toughts and since she is a Matron and motherly figure it fits very well. Hestia i actually toned down the curves a bit i just wanted to give her a more motherly shape too and even added gray strands of hair to both of them but i wanted that Hestia looks prettier casue even i - surprisingly - like her looks in the currently “official art” i think she could look even prettier since she is untouched by men and i liked the idea of a very pretty mature"young mother" goddess of chastity and warmth.
btw i am surprised that someone like you does not question why all gods have a very similar shape in body especially the women when thats so important for you. i am curious about your answer and i hope i could enlighten you with mine.

You are absolutely correct; the version without the veil looks much better. However, you are overlooking the fact that the AI used to remove the veil also minimally adjusted her eyes and nose. That is why it looks significantly more beautiful.

Is just the lightning bro
Your face does not look the same on outdoors, indoors, pin lights, flash lights and so

I have noticed and it does bother me. If I had a direct line to the games artists I might would bring it up too. The changes from original → retold did a good job diversifying the female cast, though a bit held back by staying loyal to the original. The changeover also did a worse job on the guys and turned them all into the same buff dude archetype. The recent Chinese and Japanese pantheons have done better, admittedly.

I actually prefer rock kronos and groot gaia over a more mythologically accurate depiction because there’s enough “dude in a toga” designs and their designs strike a more ‘primordial’ feel that I wished the devs went further with.

The nose was thinned, and its tip was slightly upturned. The cheeks were slightly leaned out. The eyes were improved. Even the AI knew the original wasn’t aesthetically pleasing enough, and with small adjustments, it fixed the problem.

(The AI also fixed her trapezius; it was curved and unsightly, but the AI made it straight and delicate.)

The more I look at the original portrait, the more I wonder if it’s the style or the framing that’s a little off from what we have come to expect. I suspect that the actual individual’s design could be framed/styled differently and it would feel more consistent with the standards that have been set. I really don’t think that the issue lies in the specific facial structure (at least, not for those of us not out to fight some sort of weird morphological war).

Please. No AI.

i will use it as long as its available and you can relative easily adjust an official image or to visualise things since there are actual ppl who have a problem to visualise things in their heads.

i also don’t understand how some came up with the insinuation that my take on hestia was “influencer” inspired lol this was not the case and i don’t even see any “lnfluencer” hits. just cause she is more pretty and has more prominent red lips? cause she has slightly more feminine hinted curves which she doesn’t show?
i personally even left and like the headscarf cause i think its fits her REALLY well and shows more her “priestess” and chastity which i really like how simple addition like this elevates the character and its characteristics. I don’t know why some bother the headscarf… and then they feel triggered by a pretty woman with a bit of “makeup” (and no, i didn’t prompt/write she should have “make up” thats why i really like @JeHathor subtle tweak really much  )

/still think just regarding the face and ignoaring other stuff they did a good job cause she has a pretty face. its just the light. and i still would add a bit more curves but by far not as matron and motherly as Demeter (which lacks a lot of curves)
