It is true that the Knights of Malta engaged in piracy against Islam, but the Barbary pirates engaged in slave trading and plunder on a different level same as the Crimean Khanate which are also islamic plunderers. When countries like Italy, Portugal, and France do the Barbary pirate revolution its not perfect but still better because their are colonies revolted like Libya and Algeria comes to mind. Instead of the ############ forces becoming a islamic nation, It would be more plausible to have a revolution as Egypt, which had a more diverse history including Coptic Christianity.

Yeah, it is rather odd not just a Christian civ but a religious knightly order up sticks and become Barbary pirates - really doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I think this is meant to represent the Hospitaller base at Tripoli, like an alternate reality where the local Muslim population rebelled or something. As absurd as it may sound, at least I think this has a stronger historical justification than other revolts like Portuguese->Colombians or the Maltese-> Hungarians.
Anyway, I think a new Greek revolution should be added to the Ottomans, which in turn could be added to the Italians and Maltese as well.

Personally I don’t even think Malta should get revs.
Malta should get Occupations instead of Revolutions, being able to pick either French Occupation or British Protectorate

They could replace their revolts with one “revolt” representing the Order relocating to Russia after the fall of the island of Malta. The design could be basically either you stay with Malta Malta with a focus of using actual Maltese units, or you can become Russian Malta with a focus of using the Order units. Something like that.
