Extreme graphic lag only on 1v1s

Extreme graphical lag in 1v1s

I have been experiencing extreme graphical lag in 1v1s since the latest DLC came out.

I have only experienced this in 1v1 games (in ranked, I don’t play 1v1 custom games.)

Usually, I play 4v4 games with the 10x3x mod, or just Turbo Deathmatch. I never experience any unusual graphical slowdowns in those games. I only get lag if e.g. there is 3x 10x slavs infantry splash damage bonus and there are clearly a bunch of calculations going on.

I have no explanation for why a simple 1v1 on a small map would shutter to the point of being unplayable while a 4v4 turbo deathmatch game would run with enough performance to be entirely playable.

Curiously, if I hit the windows key to unfocus the AOE2DE window the lag stops. I can view the game running normally and smoothly without lag until I click back into it.

This is graphical lag, not network lag

I tried signing out of Xbox (due to that other thread) and that had no impact.

  • 75% of the ranked 1v1s I play, sometimes it is okay
  • 0%, absolutely never - on the ranked 2v2s I play (or other custom 4v4 games)

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Queue for a 1v1 standard or empire wars game

  2. Experience extreme choppiness

The game would not lag

I don’t think this would help
