Fair gameplay AOE2DE

I was wondering why not make the game more about strategy thinking than how fast you can grow your resources and build order.

For example:

Limit town centre to maximum two allowed to be build.

Building far from the town centre not allowed except if you build castle anywhere then u can build around it. Similar to the situation when u start game with treaty. Also limit castles to maximum 4.

Limit villagers to 50 or 75, to make resources income fair for everyone so its not about making too much villagers fast to get quick resources.

Limit Trade Cart to maximum 10 but increase gold income better than having huge number of carts making crowd.

My point is to focus the game on how to control your army and your knowledge about counter units. Focus on fighting strategy more than who can gather too much resources and keep huge number of villagers

Please share your thoughts. I would love to see the game change.

None of these should be implemented in the base game.Someone can make a mod with concept if they have the time.

Arbitrary limits are not good.

A good game avoids them and instead creates trade-offs for different paths to diversify strategies. AoE3 even had tower limits, which wasn’t good at all.

Even with limits, the player with higher APM will have a huge advantage and the game can’t do anything about it. That’s why Arena is way better than Arabia; the latter demands insane APM for boar laming, deer pushing, sheep scouting, and microing archers, while the former is more about planning and adapting. APM is still there on Arena, but it’s not as insufferable as on Arabia.
