My Concept: Watering Hole
Players start with very few natural resources close to their settlement - just some berries, a small herd on a cliff closeby and one tin mine. But the water hole in the center attracts plenty of herd. Compete for monopoly over a single diamond mine near the north, or chop your way through dense forest to several ore deposits in between cliffs to the south. Meanwhile, the long cliff in the north has a long trade route as well, but one may need to cut their way through the jungle to reach it, and cutting out the other way can provide a sneaky way into the enemy base!
Plenty of wood to gather on this map, but lots of fish and native settlements means a lot of ways to use that wood too.
