How about introducing a fifth Age researched after the Imperial Age to the game?
It will have new unique techs and new unique units for all civs?
What are your ideas ?

Maybe allowing Gold generation, by self-trading or with special buildings, so that gold-intensive civs have a second opportunity to shine (if they can hold on). But the 5th Age has to be really expensive (like requiring a Wonder), so that Relics still give a big advantage, and players feel pressured to win with natural gold deposits.
Nah, leave the game to 4 ages
I would rather them rework the current ages by making them more expensive so there is more time in feudal age.
Would be a fun idea to represent the 16th century better.
@Velk413 I also wanted to leave the game with Medieval Age only but then Antiquity Age arrived. Devs don’t want to leave the game with traditional approach.
@Atsavin It’s not about modifying base game. It’s about a DLC concept we can have based on another very popular mod called Golden DE by LiningGull724.
A fifth age for AoE 2 could open the door for additional UUs and UTs. This age would represent the Renaissance.
I think it could be done by mix it with the Age of Chivalry: Hegemony mod.
They could move paladin, elite cannon galleon and champion upgrade in this last age. Further upgrades to bombard cannons (houfnice becoming common, bohemians would need something else, maybe a mortar?), hand cannoneers (arquebusiers or musketeers?) and the UU. Another UT. Dragoons or let’s say a generic conquistador like unit.
Wonder would be in this new age I guess so the 4th age would need another set of buildings and this would be the hardest part since you would need 3 or 4 new buildings. One could be for training gunpowder units, the dock should definitely be split in two (but the military one should be already available in feudal) and maybe you could come up with something for the trade workshop, then you’ll need at least another one.
In this form the game could stretch until 1650.
Cons:
Although the game has already stretched a lot since late Romans started around 300 AD so it would be harder for these civs to be competitive.
You could make the 5th age not available to all civs but a lot of balance is needed.
Some units would feel even more silly like throwing axemen mixed with musketeers but they already are kind of silly next to hand cannons. Eventually you would have to split Franks and French and people would be mad at it.
No. I think the fifth age mod existed back in voobly but wasn’t good. There’s no purpose for the 5th age since Imperial age is more than sufficient to destroy buildings and win the game. Map scripts also need to be updated to provide enough resources and a larger size to justify the existence of such an age.
Imperial age introduces gunpowder, trebs etc and now you need to introduce something more powerful and relatively modern than that. This might also force the game to shift from medieval warfare. Overall there could be a DLC which introduces a separately playable game mode which takes the game to 5th age but it shouldn’t become mainstream imo.
What about taking the wonder age mechanic from AoM Retold?
How could this wonder age be applied to AoE2?
A general buff to units, infinite resources generation?
Unlock additional pop space?
Wonder age would better than a regular age, we already have wonders in the game, they just need to be useful in no wonder victory games.
Unique Idea! Building Wonders allows you to age up.
Age Up by building Wonders can be a lot more fun than simply clicking a button. Moreover, Wonders could have some abilities and other benefits in such a situation.
BTW, most often Wonders are buildings inspired by famous castles, churches or official buildings (like town halls). I think that in such a situation it would be possible to add for each civ “missing wonders”:
Been discussed before. I wouldn’t want to propel the game any farther into the future, as a 5th age would infer.
I’d rather a late game tech or Renaissance be researchable that allows you to build visual customizations for your empire. Make embellishments on your stuff that is mostly or entirely for looks. Plant flags. Make roads or cobblestone paths. Put gilding on structures. Find marble quarries perhaps to mine and make marble sculputres. Make cemeteries. Make arches.
Sometimes I don’t like the game to end. If I’m dominating the map and just want to keep growing econ and spending resources, building more walls and castles, at this time I wish I could stay making my empire more cool to look at. Racking up 100K in resources is nice, but just wish could spend it on some cool new stuff. Using it on the typical old stuff of castles, walls, and wonders that you’ve been able to do all game and for 20 years is not as invigorating
