i just bought aoe2 and every time i try to play it i cant open it. Running it as admin does not work. Please help

Hi @PiMineSakaka

With that particular error [File Error 12 (UNABLE_TO_CREATE_DIRECTORY)], Age of Empires 2 DE is attempting to write to a log file at the path given in the error message.
Obviously, it is failing when attempting to create that directory.

Try following these steps to resolve the problem:

  • Open up Windows File Explorer and type the following into the top bar and press enter (if you are someone other than the OP, then replace Plague with YourWindowsUsername):

  • Left Click the New button in the top left of the File Explorer Window and Select Folder

  • Rename the folder to logs

  • Close the File Explorer Window and try running the Game now.

If it is still failing, even when running as admin, it would be best to uninstall the game, and then reinstall the game under a user with administrator permissions.
