Finally a map pool with no water! Thank you Devs! 🙂

I think this is the best map pool we’ve had since that time Viper picked the maps. Thank you Devs for daring to do what so many of us want! :blue_heart: :purple_heart:

Tastes are different… in my opinion this map pool (1v1) is so bad that it’s basically not worth to queue up. So I’ll take a break from AoE for two weeks and play chess instead.

i dont like water either. my problem is that all warship cost wood and gold… demolition ships should cost food and wood because they have to get up close to the enemy to attack.

This is one of the most terrible map pools. All the maps are pretty much the same boring maps without much variaty. The devs have added much new maps to the game. They are on the EW map pool. Why didnt they put some on the RM ladder as well? Than it would have been a much better map pool. New maps keeps the game fresh.

A pool with no water in does not sound like a pool :stuck_out_tongue:

Shouldn’t a map pool reflect all players different preferences?
What’s the sense of havin limited amount of bans when a pool is specifically selected in a way to satisfy only one specific and over this even negletcting other preferences?

I feel like in compensation the next map pool should be the exact opposite of the current so the toxic haters who are even bad in “winning” can get a bit of their own medicine back.

   minimum is 20 characters

I really think the community needs to play land, water and hybrid maps on equal. The current map pool works only for landy-friendos while the other side who prefer water maps got forgotten. Besides being a matter of taste, all map pools has to go with land maps 1 water map and 1 hybrid map at minimum from my pov. So sad the community just like land maps.

The community does play on land as well as on water. Some people don’t and they are louder.

Rm mappool is uninteresting but Empire Wars map pool is great.

I find it hilarious how we have widely varied tastes in the game and so many players are adamant that their maps are the only good maps.

“Arabia is the only good map!”
“Arabia is boring and stale!”
“Arena is the only good map!”
“Arena is boring and stale!”
“Nomad is the only good map!”
“Nomad is boring and stale!”

And so on and so forth.

I think its a paradise for those who love open land maps but it’s not a well-rounded map pool. You’re right about most of us not wanting water maps but maybe some hybrid or nomadic maps could have been better. Mired instead of haboob, Golden lakes instead of golden pit for example.

The 3 player-chosen maps were exactly what people voted for. There were plenty of water maps to vote for, just not enough water boys voted for them. You can’t say it wasn’t democratic.

I didn’t said that. Please don’t give false impressions of what I said or not.

fyi democratic vote usually doesn’t give a representative of the populus, but rather a mean of it. Which means that minorities are basically always underrepresented and therefore in well-designed democracies have minority representatives in commitees specialy designed for that. In this game it would eg mean, that the “water lover” miniority would eg have a separate vote to get at least one guaranteed water map in the pool.

But if I remember correctly there were some people vocally quite annoyed with the democratic selection and for some reason they can be counted towards the people who are quite happy NOW…

I think you misunderstood my original comment. I never implied that you said it wasn’t democratic. Just that you can’t say it wasn’t. There’s a difference.

You left this possible interpretation open. And therefore forced me to correct that as there might be people who will interpret it like that.
And btw i really dislkie this kind of cheeky sneaky trying to frame other people. So please stop with that.

And just to tell you. I find this topic extraordinarily toxic. There are people who like to play water - and you get in their face with your bottom and hail your “personal victory” to not leave them even one map (which you btw could just ban). I don’t understand how this kind of toxicity is acceptable.

This is a bit of an dishonest statement, isn’t it? A considerable amount of votes went for these maps, but having plenty of hybrid/water maps to vote for isn’t actually beneficial if you want to get to play one, and it’s also pretty easy to see why: the votes of people who like these maps distribute over all options, whereas the votes of those who don’t like them concentrate on the few others. On top of that, the water-including maps offered this time weren’t actually the best ones. The outcome of the poll was already clear when the options were given.

If you had only one good water-including map (let’s say Four Lakes or Nomad) in the poll, it definitely would have made the top-3. When it comes to voting, a lot can be influenced by the options that are made available; see politics.

The voting system is completely flawed. For multiple reasons.

The map pools are overall just boring, and this one I find the most boring of all.

I don’t need democracy with a shity voting system. The Empire wars pool has good maps without any democracy.

I think that in any AoE Map Pool there should be representation of different types of maps, but always keeping in mind how often players of all levels play.

The reality is that those who play Arabia, Arena, Black forest and MegaRandom are the vast majority, but it’s always nice to have a hybrid map and a water map as a minority representation. But hey, as maps are voted on in AoE2, it is what it is.

What? How is that possible? Were there more water maps than land maps to choose from?
