How is it inferior? You have galley, fire galley and demolition raft, each one countering the other. Much more interesting. The previous was inferior and current is superior. Also the fact that fire ships were buffed in general also was a good thing to make the unit viable at all.

It is important that a unit is usable. There’s no way around that. And you have to micro your navies even now too, you can’t just blindly make fire ships, cause aside from koreans, everyone has demos. You need to constantly be vary of the oppositions navy composition. Now that is more important imo, than just constantly evading another unit’s shots and that is your only way of engaging in combat.
What actually kept warcraft 3 alive wasn’t the RTS part, but the RPG part and powerful editor. Made even some maps for myself back in the day. So easy to edit units right in the map editor too, wish AoE had that.
Warcraft 3 was a very poor RTS, which is why it basically killed RTS for a generation, and birthed the MOBA.
The best part of that game was Hero micro, which the complete opposite of what RTS is about.
I am actually glad Reforged killed that game forever. It was holding RTS back.
