First look of New DLC civs' bonuses and tech tree is awesome

While most people have criticized the DLC for historical inaccuracies, I’m someone who doesn’t care much about that and enjoy the civ design, unique units, bonuses and techs. From that perspective, I feel this is an excellent DLC. Though the stats on some bonuses like food from lumberjacks, pastures, blast damage of grenadiers, stats on Liao Dao etc are unknown, most of them conceptually seem good and fitting their civ’s tech tree. With some of the previous civ DLCs in the past 10 years, the civs were overtuned and in an attempt to be cautious about that, 3 civ DLCs in DE have had at least one terribly weak and poorly designed civ but not this time. Very happy that there’s only 1 infantry and naval civilization, and for the first time since Malay, its decent and not completely useless on land. Almost all civs follow the weak eco-strong military or strong eco-weak military/tech tree balance. Great job with the new units, civs and balance.

A kind note for the near future after the DLC release. There will be many people overhyping the new units as broken and calling for a thousand nerfs. Please kindly ignore them as we don’t want to be forced to pick Chinese and Mongols all the time for another 25 years.

I agree and that makes me a bit sad tbh: the Three Kingdoms civs are much better than almost all DLC civs (I still strongly dislike their UUs and balance tho) and Khitans and Jurchen are even better than that and honestly almost perfect, although they seem a bit weak

It just makes me ask: why waste good designs on terrible civ choices and slap on them gimmicky bad UUs and heroes?

Its kinda odd. Of the 3 calvary civs, one of them is missing bloodlines (but has a regen that fills it as an imp tech, making their castle age odd) and the other is missing the last armor (but has tiger calv and imp ut that gives melee armor). It’ll take a while getting used to them and probably make them not very good for those not used to them.

Not a personal fan that the 3k civs have a bunch of ut’s for the siege (mainly traction treb and lou chuan) just bc they get a unique regional unit. 2 imp ut even give the lou chuans extra projectiles.

Other than that, i do like the unique units.

The heros are ok-ish, i do think the 2 calv ones might be a bit op, the infantry one will probably be fine ish.

Its kinda odd that the jian and xianbei have no imp upgrade and that the jian has a civ bonused giving atk in imp as a baked in update. Personally wouldve liked the unit to just have a purchasable upgrade but its still interesting enough.

Overall they have a lot of holes in their tech tree, from all having no gunpowder along with missing many other units.

I believe that’s just to compensate for the powerful economy. One of them gets 2 vills after double bit axe and horse collar right away in early feudal and like 5-6 extra vills by early castle age. The other has pastures which should be significantly faster food income since 2 vills can work on them and lancers with potentially 13 attack in castle age. So I guess some upgrades being removed is good balance.

Yes but most of those UTs also impact other units, so its not that bad.

I actually felt the other way. The infantry hero belongs to an archer civ and if I’m not mistaken and he heals all units at a good rate. And that civ’s archers fire additional projectiles after UT. So it’ll be very difficult to kill them. On the other hand one of the cav hero boosts the rate of attack of their military but that’s the one without plate barding armor and no CA, Arbalesters. So even though its a good effect I think the units will still be okish I guess. The speed boost hero’s power should be quite good but its OP only if it also applies to their regional siege unit.

Sort of like a condo but great against large number of xbow-skirms.

yeah thinking it like that i can see your point, i was mainly thinking that the 2 calvary hero units really shouldnt die if you keep a decent eye on them, while its still possible to kill the infantry one by being chased down.

Will be awesome if 3K on hold and heroes cancelled and only Jurchens+Khitans released.
