Just started to play the French. Eco runs low on food all the time while trying to spam Royal Knights. That 100 food per unit is a lot. How do I balance out food Production so I dont run low on food.
How many should be on what Resources?
Also what buildings should I build to age up? Which ones are better than others?
If trading go CoC if not go school of cavalry, then guildhall and red palace. Look at the cost of a knight and spread your vills accordingly like 1/3 more on food and add +4 extra vills on food for constant vill production.
5 on food for vils if you’re using sheep for that. You want/need deer to support knights. With SoC it’s 7 on deer 5 on gold, if you are going CoC it’s 6 on deer 6 on gold to buy eco upgrades for those free traders.
If you have a second monitor keep this up on it. Alternatively write down the breakpoints on paper. You need to use the aggression to secure map food, the more you keep the opponent locked into their base the greedier you can play.
This BO slaps HARD if you can manage macro/micro effectively:
French eco is designed to take off fast between the fast vill making and discounted dropoffs.
One thing about the civ is that you need 5 vills on food for constant vill production out of 1 TC - the vills are made faster so they consume food faster. Common thing if you play alot of civs often - for every extra TC making constant vills have 5 on food.
If its not that, consider taking boar and more aggressive hunts. You might just be making/loosing too many knights - if thats how you like to do, then use map pressure to secure the high risk objectives.
Also, you’re not legally obligated to loose all those res in early knights by having them die under the enemy TC, yknow? Keeping them to patrol and guard forward vills (taking mid map/enemy hunts or gold) is usually a better way to use them.
School of Cavalry is the goto for most. Chamber of Commerce is nice, but to maximize its gain you have to put a landmark in a very vulnerable spot. Also you need to be on point with eco techs to get the free traders, so its easy to screw up.
Royal Institute is better in just about all 1v1 situations - having a mini age4 in age 3 is alot bigger than the res income of Guild Hall.
Age 4 is a tough choice. College of Artillery is alot stronger now that counter-siege isnt really a thing any more - 30% damage on a cannon is almost guaranteed siege supremacy. On the other hand, Red Palace is basically invincible if you manage to regularly snipe enemy trebs reliably. I’d take Red Palace - French late game eco is weak and the units are already strong; the security is more important.
You just build the CoC in base and another market in the corner of the map opposita neutral market. Shift click the CoC and the free traders will go to your other market. CoC doesn’t need to be built in a bad position.
hi,
all at food, and the 3 or 4 new peons at gold.
then you age up to cav , 7 gold and 12 food ( dont forget to put 2 wood) and after on wood.
with that you can spam knight (for the begennig).
after depend of what you want to do, usualy i go arch with knight and i take food on map .
With the standard SoC opening, you need 11 Food, 5 gold to constant produce villagers + knights (not taking into account economic upgrades). For every additional stable you need like 7 more villagers on food and 5 on gold, and for every archery range you need like 3 on food and 5 on wood.
This can change a bit depending on the Economic Upgrades you have, the food source, your age (faster villagers), your Castle Age Bonus and the Blacksmith Upgrade.
