Future DLC Concepts - Faction skins

First, the Indian Dynasties expansion looks amazing, great job!

Second, there’s kind of a hard limit to how many factions AoE2 can handle.

So, for future expansion, what about some faction reskins? Either individual factions or groups of factions. The benefit is that only the owner of the DLC has to be able to see the skin, and it would breathe new life into old factions without having to introduce new units or technologies.

What’s a skin? Custom art for archers, infantry, cavalry, ships, monks, temples and buildings.

I think many long time players would be happy to pay $10 for a bunch of reskinned older factions like the British, Teutons, French, Byzantines, Persians, Vikings and Spanish.

A million times yes!! That would make the game so refreshing…i would just be Happy with a skin change just for villagers to make It easier to manage military at a glance, but have unique villager skin

Independent Architecture and units was a thing in HD. There’s no need to pay for.new skins. IA&U could be made available and then modders do their magic

For starters just give us regional villagers and bring back regional monks from WololoKingdoms mod.

How many modders do you see making units?

IA&U had a LOT of people making skins, so I don’t think that would be a issue

Well, modding sprites in DE is way more difficult than in HD since the models are much more detailed. Also creating building destruction animations is very difficult and time consuming, so I wouldn’t count on modders.

i think this is just a rumor. this was never confirmed by the devs

I like you approach to regional skins, limiting them to only those people who want that

HD was just taking stuff made for the original game.

I also like a consistent artistic style. Independent architecture was cool but then often times they’d try to AoE2fy Rise of Nation buildings.

Would love it and would happily pay for it.

I already think these DLCs are a steal at their price Vs the amount I play

Skins would certainly add to the immersion

Rework Goths, Celts add Vandals and Anglo-Saxons to finish the early middle ages.

The Vikings could get a new architecture set. The current “Central European” style doesn’t really suit them that well in my opinion, especially in later ages. Something more distinctively Scandinavian would be better. On the other hand, I think there are a couple of European civilizations that would look better with the Central European style than the Eastern European style they got, but I can’t remember what those civs were off the top of my head.

I pray for a Byzantine Architecture set.

BOHEMIANS!!! What were devs thinking when giving them Eastern architecture!

Yeah, considering I saw someone back in HD stating that the number of civs was hard capped at something like 28 or 30 due to “number of strings” which is exactly the same reason given for the 48 DE cap, and considering HD ended up with 31 civs with RotR and was initially the version for which tLK was meant to be released, I suspect this whole thing is just random nonsense that catched on.

To be honest, it doesn’t really fit the Goths either, and the Huns even less.

48 also seems like such a strange limit to have. usually if there is a limit like that it’s a power of 2

It’s said that the limit is 48 because it’s the amount of strings in the civ section of the strings file. Nothing more. It has nothing to do with the actual amount of civs. Check this out

Probably because they were Slavic and the EE architecture fits Slavic peoples? But it might also be because the Bohemian castle, units, and language fit better with EE architecture than CE.
