Gaia and Ra absolutely suck

Ra has received a new bonus with this patch- now Berries harvest at the same rate as hunt.

Also, Economic Guilds are now being pushed as Lush Colonies, and her economic bonuses are even greater.

This is very good bonus for Ra
I think it will really help Ra players in early game

ā€œUnits that canā€™t be healed (e.g., Son of Osiris) can no longer progressively restore their hitpoints when garrisoned in a building.ā€ seems like it was a bug before

rest in pieces sweet prince

I donā€™t think this will change much tbh.

I just realized a new patch released, and in it Gaia and Ra were buffed (there were a few other changes, including ones about Atlantean heroes dealing higher damage to myth units, so Atlantean heroes might be broken now, 11). My only concern is that Oranos may no longer balanced. During the previous patch, he was one of the most balanced major gods.

This was absolutely necessary.
Mind you, this patch was a pretty big nerf across the board for MU, since age1 greek heroes also got buffed significantly (faster train time and more bonus vs MU at the expense of 50 hp)

I live Gaia she is my fav Atlantean god. But I wish Leto would be buffed a bit and my wettest dream would be that she would have Helios as mythic age god. A man can dream.

Gaia can spread Lush super easily now but the problem is that Lush is just not that strong.
I think Gaia wouldnā€™t even be OP is all of the effects of Lush would be global.
She used to have 2HP/second regeneration on all buildings after all.
+15% speed and 1HP/Second regeneration for all units is nice to have but not game winning.

Iā€™d rather have them buff Lush more instead of just making economic technologies even cheaper.

I think berry bush bonus didnā€™t helped Ra that much
We have to play completely defensive and after reaching heroic age 15% more hp for migdol units doesnā€™t have much impact
I think Ra needs attack boost for his migdol units too & maybe some changes to pharaoh - empowered monuments
What do you think guys?

Of course the berry change isntt gonna fix Ra, because food has never been the issue with him.
Sitting in your base and booming is already what is losing Ra games, so a bonus that helps with that probably isnt gonna acomplish much either.
The problem Ra has are poor scouting and an even worse ability to secure that all important second gold mine without giving up on a smooth transition into the heroic age and a migdol composition. With most games ending or at least being decided in the classical to early heroic I donā€™t see how buffing Raā€™s already excellent late game is gonna help him in that regard. Instead it would risk making him overpowered if he ever does become viable. His late game is already better than everyone elses (at least egyptians at least in terms of unit quality), I see no need to boost it further.

That being said I wouldnā€™t be opposed to a buff to camel riders for egyptians in general, like reducing their gold cost slightly or making them a bit better at raiding. Which is another option Ra severly lacks. If you commit to a classical age composition as Ra, your opponent can always fall back to their base an your slow composition poses 0 threat to the enemy, since even if you commit to a forward base strategy or similar he can just raid you since your army will never make it home in time. So you are stuck playing defensive and every unit you need to make, just to hold off against enemy raids, with no means of using those units to hurt your enemy, all while further delaying your heroic age, where you are supposed to be strong. Even rushing heroic age doesnā€™t work because there is no immediate pay off, even migdol units if you can even afford them take long to produce, so you cant even afford to send them on raids.

My true suggestions for buffing Ra however would be centered around where he is currently weakest at, which is the classical age.

  • Make rain reveal town centers during the cast
Uranos no longer has the buff so there is no thematic overlap.
This would help Ra by eleviating his shortcomings when it comes to scouting. Right now it is very difficult for Ra to know if your opponent is booming or not, since you do not have any fast scouting units other than the sphinx. It would help buff rain, which is in a really bad spot right now due to how much food is on the map, which Ra cant really contest. And it might be given even further utility by allowing you to use it in combination with lotus swarm to hit your opponents eco, so it isnt just him always raiding you. Allowing you at least some functunality that is at least a bit similar to what Isis can do with ancestors eclipse. I dont think its busted because one it is rather telegraphed and easy enough to respond to, its more about providing a more immediate pay off for Ra age up.

  • Buff Citadel and defenses in general,
You can always tie these to defensive upgrades, but right now there is just not enough stopping an opponent from runnign into your base even under your town center , kill a few villagers and ride off again. I am not saying that bases should be immune to raides, but if I build my base defensively and get the tower upgrades, there should be at least some pay off. Ra is a defensive god so any bonus that makes getting to heroic less expensive for him is going to leave him with more gold to secure that all important second gold mine

  • Buff Ptah, more specifically the Wadjet,
I would suggest giving the snake a short but powerful slow, ideally it would be more powerful against fast units like cavalary.
Egyptian classical age composition are very slow, all while being weak enough that you want them to stick together so they dont just get picked off in hit and run engagements or similar. Given the predominance of cavalary in other pantheons classical age compositions, it leaves egpyt in the unenvyable position of spaming spear men, which your opponent is just never gonna engage with his cavalary and egpyt having no way to force the engagement. Leaving you with a bunch of units that are easily picked off at ranged, while your opponent has cavalary that if nothing else still forms a powerful raiding option.
if the wadjet now had a more powerful slow, everytime you manage to catch those raiding units out of positon Ra would at least have some way to confirm at least a few kills. It would turn raids into a less one sided affair and give Ra some counter play. Your opponent sees that wadjet and he would have to ask himself, do I dive on those workers and risk not getting all my units out or do I search for another opening. The slow would make it possible for slow counter units like spearmen or priests to actually close the distance and get some damage done. Rather than constantly having to run your units back and forth to get some hits on that pesky centaurs this would actually allow you to get some actual defensive positions and with it hopefully have an easier time securing that goldmine. Poison effect tries to do a similar thing, but ultimatley falls flat in my opinion. Plus a slow would actually reward Ra for having forces in the classical age, rather than them being a requirment to not jsut get raided out of the game.

Yeah, stop buffing things like the tech costing less and buff her lush. She is supposed to heal and make her buildings and units be safer on lush.

By the way they balance itā€™s more probably they make lush start giving bonus damage and increase the tech cost bonus than simple give lush more regen and things like this.

Iā€™m new to AOM but am relatively decently ranked in aoe3. Why not have Ra rain power also heal units? Used right it can greatly help defense of himself and allies which will give him better survivability to late game. On top of that then you have to make a choice to use rain for economy or defense?

Just a quick car thought before I go on site. Iā€™m a Fryer noob.

In the old game rain could be used offensively as it blocked god powers. Havenā€™t really seen any Ra do this in the new one, i gotta test if the blocking is still there
