When playing a game, at random times, the game freezes and I can’t do anything with my computer. I only hear gaia sounds like birds but nothing else. My keyboard and mouse stops working. I can not even use Ctrl+Alt+Del or any other key. The only option is long pressing power button for a hard reset. And it bugs me a lot!

:arrow_forward: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

:point_down: How often does the issue occur? CHOSE ONE; DELETE THE REST!

It was around 10% but after the last update I can say it’s now 40% or more. The percentage comes from approx. completed games that I played. Lately I’m facing this issue more frequently.

:point_down: List CLEAR and DETAILED STEPS we can take to reproduce the issue ourselves… Be descriptive!

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. I can not give any steps to reproduce because I don’t know what causes the issue. It happens randomly in games at random times.
  2. I don’t have similar issues with other games that I play on Steam.

I can give my system specs though:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3500X CPU
  • AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT GPU
  • 64 GB (2x32) DDR4 3200 MHz RAM
  • All drivers are up to date. Also Windows updates.

:point_down: What was SUPPOSED to happen if the bug you encountered were not present?

Play the game as usual.

:point_down: ALWAYS attach a PICTURE (.jpg, .png, .gif) or VIDEO (.mp4, YouTube link) that highlights the problem.

I can not give one because it prevents me to use any of my computer’s features or other applications.

:point_down: Attach a SAVE GAME (.aoe2spgame) or GAME RECORDING (.aoe2record) of the match where you encountered the issue. Link it below if using an external file service.

Here’s the latest recorded game I encountered this issue (28.05.2023 02:06 GMT+3) I waited around 10 minutes before I did a hard reset but the record stops where the game is hanged.

Are you using Discord, Steam or Nvidia overlays? If so, please disable them.
I also recommend you to add the whole folder of the game to your antivirus exception list, if you are using any.
Disabling mods might help as well, as there could be an outdated mod causing the crashes.

Thanks for your reply. I don’t use Discord for gaming. I’ve disabled Radeon’s ingame overlay though. Will try and let you know if I encounter the same issue or not.

I don’t think it’s related to Steam overlay because I don’t do anything to trigger it when I’m in a game, all popup alerts are also disabled.
