Game Freezing and then all buildings and units become Black Boxes

While playing 1 v 1 ranked, game suddenly froze. Error came → Close Program / Wait for program to respond.

I clicked “wait for program to respond”. After few seconds, game resumed but all buildings and units became black boxes. Will share the screenshot.

This is the fourth time, game froze this week. But last 3 times, even after clicking wait for program to respond, it closed on its own after a while. Then i got prompt which gave two options: “send error report” and “dont send”. I do not have the screenshot for this prompt.

  2. Click multiplayer ranked
  3. Play ranked 1v1

Game would go on normally. I would have won.

Thanks for this report with the game frozen. The team is currently investigating the issue that triggers those crashes.

If this issue is happening too often, I would recommend these 4 steps:

  1. Can you try to verify your files in the Steam Library? Age of Empires II → Right button → Properties → Local files. (If you are using Microsoft Store, you need to reinstall the game).
  2. Can you try to disable your mods? And restart the game after that.
  3. Can you try to close as many programs as possible before starting the game?
  4. Can you update Windows and graphic card drivers?

On the other hand, if you come across the popup asking to send the report or not send it. We will really appreciate if you send it adding the information of what were you doing before the crash happened.
