AOE3 just suffers from being released at wrong time, under wrong name. AOE3 DE in current state is better game then AOE2 DE & AOE4. It has so much bad perception, that its never going to shine. Even if they would made it more competitive by simplifying civilization differences and making it more balanced.
AOM suffers just from being abandoned and failing to provide sequel that would refine the rough parts of first 3D Age game.
Ultimately AOE2 & AOE4 are not good games for modern game industry. They have very little to no potential for additional revenue other than DLC (civ + campaign).
On other hand AOM & AOE3 have design that allows it to include more revenue sources for developers, if they wanted to. In AOM case imagination is limit as it’s fantasy & mythology nature allows them to go nuts.
Ultimately I hope we will get AOM DE soon and maybe AOM2. AOE4 even half a year after release doesn’t show any promise to truly be a great game. It’s good game, but as patches go I don’t see any promise for great future. Game has too many problems and non-competitive players just don’t have reason to stick to it over new games that are released daily… and patches just fail to even make it worth for players to return to it.
I think 3 is by far the better game but it is starting to get way to complicated for any new players. It takes years to master all that detail and if they keep adding new civs and making it harder and harder to learn.
I really don’t think they have thought it through all the way. It’s creativity run amok. Great to look at. A beast to play

Anyway I fail to see how AOE1 surpasses AOE3 in anything, when no-one even bothered to make additional content for it. It’s included in tournament due to Vietnamese community & 25 year anniversary … Most likely only to expose all fans to AOE4 in hope for AOE4 to get more attention…

I’m begining to like the “game is dying threads”. There’s one every month.
But the game is not dying because funny enough, besides the players that play and enjoy the game, the game is also kept alive by the same people who dont like the game but still play it.
de pasar la prueba del tiempo, lo hizo es un juego atemporal, será divertido no importa en que época lo juegues, lo que no pudo pasar fue la barrera del marketing, salió mal preparado el 2005 no por que no fuese un juego completo sino que tenia que competir con halo, call of duty, Dmc , los sims 2 etc el age 2 salió en el 1999 en el culmen de la época dorada de los rts el age 3 tuvo la mala fortuna de salir justo en la época de los shooters, y la comunidad del age 2 no hizo tampoco un buen trabajo con la saga, dios santo he encontrado a algunos miembros de la comunidad del 2 hablando mal del 3 en foros de la comunidad de warcraft y starcraft xd
Eres verdaderamente un sujeto ciego colega, delirio de que? son hechos los juegos deben evolucionar y no quedarse estancados en la misma formula, yo veo lo de prueba del tiempo de otro punto de vista y creo que ya lo explique, y que dices colega? el age 2 también lo usan para sacar dinero fácil con 3 civs casi iguales y 3 campañas, y no siento que me sacaran el dinero del bolsillo buen señor, siento que cada maldito centavo valió la pena, lo que el compañero quiso decir es que age of empires 3 a diferencia del 2 puede ser moldeable a como de la gana ya que los desarrolladores no tendrán el miedo de probar cosas nuevas para agregar en cambio en el age 2 eso seria imposible ya que afectaría demasiado al juego.
meanwhile aoe4 aged like good milk, bleeding players by failing to match a 15 year old game nearly across the board, might be a good game when looked at on its own, but not so much when compared to its predecessors
AOE4 did do some positive things, like blizzard style control click, which i personally don’t use but understand its important for blizzard rts players, or lately camera location binds, but those took 6 months to come, i’m not saying 4 isn’t improving, but doing it in seasons 3 months apart and putting something as basic as color picking into that is just the most disastrous decision made for this game, its clearly taking too long for these features to be implemented, and i bet they already have color pick working, but delay the release till next “season”
The problem with age lll it that at release it was a mess and it had or still have a lot of performance issues even in modern machines, however gameplay is better than 2, both games are amazing IMO but age 2 DE runs better than age IIl and that is another reason why age 2 have more players.
