I also preferred more in the past. But I don’t know whether I want more after 3K. Are they going add more civs that we want? Or they simply add civs that nobody ask for?
Funny how you cut of the graph after the player number collapsed.
As I said in my last post the DE had a rough start but it eventually completely replaced HD. But it had a higher player number since the beginning.

In some ways the line of AoE2DE just starts where AoE2HD declines.
I doubt its possible to go that far without overlapping of civis and bonusus.
you are suggesting I am being dishonest here, but the point is that “aoe2 was growing without new civ additions”, which is clearly true. I cut off the graph where I did, because at that point DE was released which muddles the comparison.
it hasn’t though, there is still a significant community playing on HD.
It was fine but not thriving, the Simple fix here is to let people go back to a certain point in data patches to play multiplayer or to at least allow players to toggle what civs they want to be found in a match,
For example if you don’t own the last dlc TLC you shouldn’t be forced to face them in a match
New civs and DLCs has got to happen or the numbers will drop and that will affect multiplayer participation as less people who play single player be tempted to play.
I don’t do multiplayer but Im consider it but if they dried up content I would never even think about it as I’d lose interest.
We must also stress that aoe and FE said the vast majority of players are single player / campaign players
i don’t think this is true. voobly and HD were both growing without new civ releases. I agree with the rest of your post.
Problem is the new generation of players need new content or they stop playing, it’s not right but thats how it is these days unfortunately
how many people would play in multiplayer older patch? causal people don’t care about rolling back version or using mods and will play vanilla last version, they would probably be playing alone in that patch
It is weird they haven’t made older patches available if they did make it in HD and it is not very difficult, they must have done it on purpose for some reason. Maybe they had statistics that rollbacks were barely used by players and considered it not worth it?
Both you and @Skadidesu are ignoring the effects of the pandemic.
Only an small and loud minority complains about “too many civs” and “not rework older civs” because reasons, either balancing issues, competitive crap and others stuff that most players don’t care.
I want AoE2DE still live for over 5 to 10 years more. If that means include civs, rework Ensemble ones and add more content like regional units and buildings, so be it.
I only play single ATM. I had to pull the internet plug out to prevent Steam from updating the game without my consent. Why? Because I want to finish playing the custom campaigns that were created with the previous naval system in mind.
my statements about HD and Voobly growing are independent from the pandemic. they were growing in the time before 2020, independently from pandamic and DLC
aoe2 survived for 20+ years before the first civ was reworked. why do you think that “no reworks for older civs” leads to the game dying?
yeah, as i said weird they don’t allow it when they did in HD
as of curiosity, which campaign is it and why relies heavily on old system?
The game is dying? How, exactly? The game was released less than a year on PS5, which means it’s better than before.
MS can balance the gimmicks, add new stuff like regional units, buildings and aesthetic stuff, even reworking other systems similar to the naval one.
The game is not dying, it’s just a loud minority who complains because competitive crap.
This is a big part of the game now like it or not.Why did aoe a dead game get a DE port and a new civi?
Nostalgia first, second sales and third events and competitive stuff.
Sales first nostalgia second rest dosent even matter now.
dude, you implied the game would die without new civs and reworks. I am showing you that the game was growing before we had civ reworks and constant sloppy civ additions.
I do think that the game is being damaged by low quality DLC and more and more people are losing trust in the devs because of lies and broken promises. The general game is in a fairly sorry state with bugs not getting fixed for years.
Dunno if heavily, but they were created and playtested for the old system. The Viking ones and one about Ryukyu.
It’s weird on ps5 despite the update, I can load a previous save and it will take me back to a battle I had in campaign and I still have the old stuff, the Inca still have eagle warriors where as now they don’t
