I hope that future updates or DLC could include a two-player co-op mode where two players control the same faction against another two-player team in online skirmishes, adding a new dimension to the game for noob players who aren’t good at multi-tasking. Additionally, I hope that two-player co-op mode will be added to all campaign levels.
The 2 people control the same player thing is surprisingly unpopular. Starcraft 2 really tried to push it but people just didn’t want it. Of course having the option is always good. AoE2 always had it. But I think AoM never did, but I could be wrong, never tried it.
And of course coop campaings are always nice. There are many campaign missions that could be really cool coop missions because of the way they are laid out. But that unfortunately means a lot of reworking for a feature that most people will never use because they never manage to get their friends to play with them. I have yet to play a single AoE2 coop campaign scenario because my friends never have time whenever I do.

I personally think beginners who struggle with managing multiple tasks at once will welcome this feature; perhaps adding it will help increase the game’s player base.
Does AoE2DE have it? Never knew this game had that, how is/was it enabled?
It’s a hidden feature. Simply by choosing the same colour you play as the same player. Because for AoE2 colour = player number.
In custom scenarios you can choose which player you play as by changing your colour.
