Weapon switching should be very easy to implement because it use the same engine as AoE3DE where almost every unit has that feature.
Yeah this is always possible. The development time of a game can be practically infinit if you just keep restarting development all the time.
That could be the case but I don’t think that would cause that much of a delay.
But I’m actually curious how much goes into each of the aspects of a DLC.
Like how much is designing, making the assets, balancing, making the campaign missions, bug fixing, etc.
Does it take much longer to make a campaign in that engine compared to AoE2DE where all DLC always have like 3 campaigns.
AoE3DE never got much single player content and the Immortal Pillars promises a full single player campaign.
Part of it is the story itself, in AOE2 the campaigns are all based on real people, sure there are some modification to the stories but its still on the whole based off the real life of the person, so a pre-existing story, AOM historically has always had fully fictional stories, so they have to write a story themselves, and it should be a compelling story, which takes a lot longer than taking a pre-existing story and fitting it into 6-5 campaign scenerios.
Story writers are not that expensive.
Also it’s based on mythology so it’s not that different then something based on history. You get a lot of source material but with the benefit of having more freedom since it’s all fictional.
AoE3 is also based on real history (the original campaign was pretty fantasy though) so a campaign for it would have been as easy to write as an AoE2 campaign.
I mean, Fall of the Trident and New Atlantis are pretty much 100% original fiction other than the Siege of Troy, granted they might not go that way with the Chinese campaign, but they might do that which would require a lot more writing.
tbh. their writing is not that good in general so I don’t think they put that much work into that, unless Immoral Pillars is going to be a lot better than what they have done so far.
I mean I thought Fall of the Trident was always considered as pretty solid, but i’ll grant across AOE3 and AOM it’s probably the only good one, New Atlantis is just ok, and the Black family story in AOE3 is…ehhhh
It’s not just the siege of Troy that has a base in actual mythology.
Isis putting together and resurrecting her husband Osiris after he was chopped to pieces by Set is an actual thing in Egyptian mythology.
As is the war between giants and gods in Norse myth.
Atlantis, and it sinking, may be a bit more ambigous. The story itself comes from Ancient greece, but arguably it is only a myth in modern times, not back then.
So, Fall of the Trident is linking several myths together into a single story.
New Atlantis partially morrors the Aeneiad. The story about the Survivors of the destruction of Troy finding a new home, which eventually culminates in the grandkids of Aeneas, Romulus and Remus, to build the City of Rome.
It simply replaces Troy with Atlantis and Aeneas with Kastor, and adds the whole Titans story on top of it.
I mean I wouldn’t be surprised if they are getting some pressure that the DLC goes well so they’re trying to double and triple check stuff to make sure it pans out well.
Or maybe they’re trying to implement more single-player content because people were generally unenthusiastic about Arena of the Gods or whatever its called lol.
It’s probably out of scope for this DLC, but I would love to see some short campaigns covering the stories of various myths; that idea alone gives a lot of single player content potential.
@Velk413 I agree, I honestly think that Arena of the Gods was just an attempt to keep players waiting for the DLC and also to add content in a cheap way.
In the meantime, their aim is to make players wait as long as possible, because they know they have no right to make mistakes, and they have to maintain a high standard of quality to guarantee the game’s long-term success.
That’s why I’m not at all surprised that no release dates have been announced yet, everyone seems to think that it’s going to happen very quickly, that making DLC is very quick. But there are a number of parameters to take into account, such as feedback from testers, etc. The higher the quality standard, the longer it will take. That’s why I think it could very well be released at the end of the year.
If you’re not getting paid to keep annoying us with this kind of comment: “Oh, it’s all fine, the devs this, the devs that, blah blah blah” all the time here on the forum… you should be getting paid… Because damn.
@_MarakuJa1 Yes, I give my opinion on the forum because I still play the game and I’m part of the AOM community. Oh yes, that’s right, I’m talking to the gentleman who no longer plays the game, who says it’s crap and who has proclaimed loud and clear that he’s leaving the AOM community for good.
they just can’t release it at the end of the year because with steam they have to release the 2 extensions the following year of the offer so if they release the Chinese ones at the end of the year they will have to reimburse the second extensions and lose a lot and even be reported by Steam.
(jokes aside I think it’s still better to be a bit more optimistic and positive than too sarcastic and negative like you sometimes are - and I am normally also not the most positive person in the room. Trust me on that.
Btw I don’t think the DLC will be scheduled till end of the year. Was way too polished in the teaser trailer and since it should have come end of last year I doubt they will take it even till summer of this year. Either this month or March at the latest in my opinion at least)
I deal with disrespect like this, and what the devs are doing fits as disrespect to me. But what really irritates me, in fact, is the ‘Stockholm syndrome’ of some. 11111
Bro, stop it. No need to be like that. There are way way WAY worser things to get offended by and ppl to be rude to than here and for a video game. Even it’s our beloved AoM.
Yeah, basically the same as Victors and Vanquished was for AoE2; a quick, cheap solution to serve as a filler because planned content was running behind.
And tbh I really for the most part don’t mind them investing more time to ensure a quality product, but I will concede i’d be slightly annoyed if it was all the way to the end of the year before it comes.
Really? They have that tight of a timeframe to deliver everything? I didn’t know that…hopefully they’ve already started working on the second one then too…though tbh I wouldn’t mind if it takes into 2026 for the second DLC, just to ensure it isn’t rushed slop.
