How to balance Indian elephants

I had a slightly different idea than @AbuzzJam4677680 : make the EA shoot a “cluster” of arrows, with one being accurate and doing the regular damage while the others are widely spread around the main arrow.

To put some numbers, the main arrow would deal the normal damge of the EA (maybe reducing the damage as a tradeoff) while the “cluster” would be composed of 2-3 arrows doing 1-2 damage around the target.

I was thinking more of the Organ Gun actually.

So you are thinking of spread shot but not rapid successive shooting like Chu ko nu, right? In this case, there would be a bunch of bows setting on the elephant and having min range. That would be a brand new idea. I think its better to design such unique unit when introducing new elephant civs. Or else, Elephant archer is not an archer but an elephant siege. It should be renamed.

Besides, historically Indians often sent 2 or more archers to mount on Elephant in battle. That’s why I would have such idea while counting it as one unit with 1.5/2 population slot.

I don’t know why either.
But maybe we can incrementally improve historical accuracy and it doesn’t matter where we start?

Are you suggesting Genitours be changed to a regional unit like step-lancers, for Berbers, Spanish & Ports? I’m sure you could get some support! Would have to find a new team bonus for Berbers though. Maybe the faster vill bonus is weak enough that it can be teamified.

BTW in another thread this guy said a small eco nerf would outweigh getting access to BE:

Improving historical accuracy would completely destroy balance. History was imbalanced as anything could ever possibly be.

A “historically accurate” AoE would die fast, as it would fall into a single civ, diamond hard, Meta.
