How to buff the Gurjaras?

The civ is very good at stopping scout rushes in the early game. That’s a nice strength. However militia are much stronger these days.

A very simple buff would be simply increasing the food rate they get from sheep within their mills. That would leave their tech untouched but allow them to make villagers and mass troops a little easier.

Even something like five extra food per minute with a sheep in a mill could have wild implications. 10 extra food would probably be too powerful.

Simply lowering the food cost of the Shrivamsha by 10 , combined with getting Kshatriyas would make the unit much more powerful.

Revert their sheep bonus to how it was before it got nerfed the last time. That would be enough.

They will still retain their weakness to heavy infantry civs. But it would give them a fighting chance.

New Bonus = Mill +100% HP.

And Camel Scouts can convert wild chicken into tame ones. Tame Chickens only consume 1/4 garrison space in the mill.

( 100 % hp bost isn’t necessary imo 50 % would already be more than enough and probably 20 % already suffiscient)

I think it could be dangerous to buff gurjaras too much in general, cause if it’s indeed mostly attributed to the chicken maps they’re tanking currently, they could become oppressive on non-chicken generations And still suck on the chicken ones.

Raise the mounted bonus damage back to 40% in castle age and onwards. 30% on the +9 base of the camel rider is just an extra 3 - near worthless for a camel reliant civ.

Weaknesses are as much a part of civilization identities as strengths. They are checking cavalry/archer civilizations, so it’s a good thing good infantry civilizations are checking them.

No, because it would upset the balance on maps where the mill cannot be attacked.

The unit is fundamentally… dubious. It is too strong in some situations and too weak in others.

I’m in. I mean, the Persians have “TCs and Docs have double HP”, why not make the Gurjaras have “Mills, Lumber Camps and Mining Camps have double HP”.

Imagine the poles and japanese…

What about start with 2 → 3 extra berry bush?

I think it might be time to give some civs fortified palisade wall. Or allow stone wall to build faster.

The thing with fortified palisade wall: where would you put the tech? Rightfully, it would belong in the university, but that would be long after the tech is needed (which is mainly in Feudal age). The next best option would be in the town center (where it would have an opportunity cost in villagers, making it an expensive tech). Either way, the tech would need to be fairly cheap (requiring a university is already a 200 wood investment, and if in TC the opportunity cost is the main price).

With that said, I think having a fortified palisade tech in the TC starting in feudal age may be a good addition to the game.

The research should be fast and cheap. Like 10s-15s to let players research.

I agree. Especially with MAA opening being stronger than ever, this is a necessity imo. The game nerfed defensive play too much in the past few years.

BTW, I think the tech shouldn’t be universal. Only half of the civs should get it.

Lumber Camp. Its a wood based building and a wood based structure. So a feudal Lumber camp tech gives the building more value than just a dropsite!

I like this idea.

No, 25 seconds. Like Town Watch. Can cost 75W and you put it on the line below, which from memory is free.

All except the cumans actually.

I don’t mind this idea either.

That will most definitely be broken. Byzantines for example.

I agree with increasing the food over time from garrisoned livestock. I’ve always found it underwhelming, even on nomadic maps where you can get 30+. Berry bushes at the start put you behind those chewing herdables.

I think the biggest and most important buff Gurjaras can/should get is reducing the castle age UT from 500 food to 300. Once you’ve massed some UUs infantry is no problem, but I find myself halfway to post-imperial before I come back to grab this CASTLE age tech because I have to make an army or I’m a sitting duck, and this civs units aren’t cheap on food. Even after the tech it’s underwhelming. I really like the civ but the negatives outweigh the positives in most cases.
