Was given this weird name when I registered and didn’t seem to have a choice, and I can’t see now how to change it.

In order to post here you have log into your MS account (or GitHub, but haven’t done that). I don’t see any option to change the username, so either it’s pulling it from some MS database, or it was set during the initial registration ageofempires.com account setup and can’t be changed now. I’d guess you have to create a new account.
If there is another way, you should write to MS support or maybe asked here:
