I would prefer to remove thumb ring and see whether it is enough before removing arbalest. Obuch+arbs can be still a good combo for Poles without hurting too much.
This in combination with this would be a nice change. It makes no sense for Light Cav to have trample damage when Poles are missing the last armour upgrade. You get more out of trample damage the longer a unit stays in combat, but missing an armour upgrade, on top of Light Cav already being more fragile than other cavalry units, means they donāt get to stay in combat for long before needing to retreat and heal up.
If Lechitic Legacy instead granted Light Cav a charge attack, that and Szlachta Privilegesā current discount would then justify missing Plate Barding Armour, as this incentivises hit and run strategies.
Polish arbalesters are already missing final armor upgrade, nerfing them even more just doesnāt make any sense.
The civ is well playable but all cavalry is just a glass cannon. I agree that a charge attack instead of trample damage for Winged Hussar makes sense.
Iād also remove āwingsā from regular hussar model, only Magyar Huszar and Winged Hussar should wear wings.
Lastly, agree that nerfing Szlachta privileges discount to 20-30% and giving Poles final armor upgrade for cavalry also makes a lot of sense. Making cheap cavalry just to watch them die because of lack of Plate Barding Armor is no fun
That would be great actually.
This thread is so old that the Poles have received significant balance changes since it was made. Things like the reduction of the gold trickle and Folwark instant food percentage and the removal of guilds. Those Poles took them down significantly a long time ago. And some more recent changes (reduction of Folwark cost - still a long ago change - and the new bonus reducing the cost of bloodlines/light cavalry upgrades) helped bring them back up to a reasonably good state while maintaining their uniqueness as a civ. But basically, the whole thread is outdated.
I do think that Poles are in a good state balance-wise at this point. They have a good economy with two powerful eco bonuses, but one of those bonuses only comes by making the farm transition rougher. Poles effectively spend ~70w/farm whenever they build a Folwark with 8 farms around it. The instant food from the Folwark farms does mitigate this, but the food spike isnāt free. And Poles can spam cavalry quite effectively, but missing the last armor upgrade does limit their cavalierās power (still can win games with Polish cavalier spam, but they are a lot more vulnerable to ranged damage than other knight civs). And Winged Hussar spam is quite powerful but also quite expensive (only viable due to the Folwark farming bonus). And Poles have a number of other options open to them (good archers, excellent infantry UU that pairs well with any ranged unit, MAA/tower rush, etc)
