How to make UUs more viable?

Absolutely not. When you make a balance change you have to consider all aspects of the change and the ramifications of the change. Not just “let’s do this and see what happens”

Leave castles alone please. Unique units are just there to make the game look cool for the most part. You’re not meant to build these cool epic structures and nice little little castles everywhere. This isn’t a city builder game. You are meant to rush.

You meant to end the game in feudal age with a scout rush/archer rush then GG in 1v1 on a very open map.

If you want "epic’ battles just make a team game of black forest or michi. Plenty of unique units in those games. Or play some cool scenario with loads of castles and very rich resources. Leave castles as a rare building.

No just make a unique tech making them availble to train from sables/barrack/archery range but with lower speed creation.

so now every civ has 3 unique techs? furthermore the balance ramifications would be insane and require months at minimum to fix.

I completely agree but its a solution. Castle should still be rare and with high hp. But the balance would be hard

if it causes more issues then it solves its not a solution, it just further aggravates the game. trying to get cute and unique has left the two newest civs pretty much dead in the water balance wise.
