When vills hunt, they pause after killing an animal to play out their reload animation rather than immediately moving to gather (or just gathering if they shot it point-blank). However, you can manually interrupt their shooting reload animation to get them to gather or move more quickly than if you don’t do anything and let them play out their reload animation. Doing this helps boost some early age up timings by a few seconds because your vills spend their time moving or gathering rather than standing still in one place. I think this is a silly mechanic and it’s silly to expect players to interact with the game on this level, same as why they eventually removed animation cancelling attacks in AoE4. A huntable animal dying should cause the villagers who were shooting at it to immediately march over and start hunting from it.
