I am new to the game

Hi everyone I am new to this game, I just started playing it last night. I am wanting to know what is the best way to start your experience? I jumped straight into multiplayer and then really did not know how the game worked so got stuck for hours not sure if there is a winner or not. I have done the tutorial and that was helpful but not for the multiplayer version. I look forward to anyone’s feedback-thanks.

Hello there,

Welcome to the community! You chose an excellent game to play

I will just write a quick few advices:

  1. Pick one civ, learn it and stick to it at least at the beginning. The best choice would be to go for European civs at first because they are the easiest ones to learn. If you think you are aggressive player than consider Russia or Ottomans. If you are more defensive player choose Dutch or British. If you don’t know, go with France - they are very well-rounded, can do anything with them.

  2. Learn basic hotkeys. There is multiple ways to configure them so just watch any tutorial on YouTube and try it. For example here:

  3. Get a grasp of counter system:

  4. Watch 1 or 2 videos on YouTube with build orders for your civilization (optimal shipment order for some situations). Watching other people games with your civ is a great idea too.

  5. Check Wiki or in game description for units if you don’t know how to use them:
Civilization (Age of Empires III) | Age of Empires Series Wiki | Fandom

  6. Remember that gathering natural resources is much faster then gathering from Mills/Farms/Estates. If you can - hunt and dig gold from mines

Good luck, you will be fine, have fun! If you have any more questions, you can send me private message and I will try to help you

I think if “Art of War” has not been cleared, try not to play multiplayer games, especially the casual game in the lobby. Ranked matches might be better, when you lose enough games, you can meet some equally fresh players.
But I think it’s better to do more training against AI. When you can easily beat AI with difficulty above “difficult”, maybe multiplayer games will be much smoother.
Good luck and have fun XD
