I FINALLY GOT THE GAME! And I'd like to thank the team who made it

Hello Age of Mythology Retold team,

I was one of the earlier posters who was hoping for an Age of Mythology remake back then (I can’t remember if my topic is still here), and well, it took me quite sometime to get a copy, but thanks to the recently concluded Steam Winter Sale, I finally got myself a copy of the game!!

Now I’m sure I will have some nitpicks to say about the game the more I play it later on (which I feel I will have), but lemme just take this opportunity instead to give my heartfelt thanks to the development team who made this game.

I for one remember the first time I bought Age of Mythology back in the early 2000s for my crappy Pentium III PC, and remembered how I was so impressed with the game’s graphics. And yes, the water graphics was just amazing. And when I booted up Age of Mythology Retold, I was initially worried that maybe, I will not feel the same spark or genuine amazement as I did back then. But the moment I saw the title screen, I can’t help but feel the smile on my face.

I was actually amazed with how the game ran on my relatively old PC which has a modest RTX 2060 (6GB). I was able to pump up the graphics up to High and still ran relatively fine!! I remember my PC actually lagged abit running Age of Empires IV, so I was worried I had to lower the graphics settings abit just to play the game decently. Thankfully, that isn’t the case, so kudos to the dev team for making the game run well on relatively older cards. Will try to test it out on APUs and Intel integrated graphics and see how low can I go and still be able to play the game.

As for the game itself, played abit of Skirmish, and man was it fun as heck!! I’m actually glad they removed limits on God Powers, so its actually more fun and crazy to just mess around with em. I also love the new resource management auto allocator thing. Atleast my villagers will always be busy and not be stuck with a flag of non-working villagers for long which is a great thing. Another plus for me is the auto queue of soldiers from barracks. This makes me do less micromanagement each time, and just focus more on the fun parts of the game, which is sending legions of soldiers and myth units to wreck havoc to my enemy’s base. And the game just feels much more chill and fun to play, which is great. All in all, I’m loving all the new mechanics and improvements in the game.

Anyway, I’m sure there will be some nitpicks I’ll have (the biggest one sticking on my mind is still the population/housing limit) but I’ll save that for a later post. But for now, I just wanted to thank you guys for making this game, which is slowly poised to become my go-to Age game next to AoE2 (which this game might surpass as soon as I confirm it to run on my laptop that’s only running an integrated Intel GPU). But this game is just so much fun, and I love it. Thank you!!

Lately, a lot of posts have been predicting the death of the game, revelling in the slightest micro-fall from players, and others have been calling it “the game is cr**p”, seeing only major flaws that aren’t flaws at all.

Finally, a post from someone who’s part of the silent majority and who appreciates the game, because yes, the game really is a lot of fun. Personally, I’ve tried playing AOE2 from time to time, but I find it much less addictive and fun than AOM. It’s only with AOM that I have no problem playing it a little every day, you never get tired of it! I really hope its future is bright, because it’s my favourite RTS at the moment.

My goodness, let the guy enjoy his acquisition. Stop problematizing every single post, don’t you see that your complaints don’t fit here? Just be happy for his joy or ignore the post.

They really made a lot of improvements, the one I liked the most was being able to queue up the upgrades for the arsenal and warehouse to be bought as soon as the resources are available. The troop autoqueue really improves the gaming experience, not having to worry about making troops gives you more time to manage the microeconomy while your army grows!

Enjoy the game!

I do see those posts, and I can understand why. While the game is fun, it isn’t perfect. But then again, no game ever is, so I simply focus on what I felt the team did right and see what could be improved from there.

I felt that some of those posters are coming from a place of concern and passion for the game methinks. While there are indeed some who are just hating for the sake of hating the game, some I read, truly just wants the game to be better. But that takes time I believe, and we all just need to be patient.

That said, what I love atleast about Age of Mythology Retold, in its current form, is just how fun it is to play. I’d argue that its even more fun to play than Age of Empires IV, which is saying something. And for me, that is all that matters.

I agree!! I know that the RTS purists and competitive gamers out there despise this feature, but its made the game much more relaxing and more fun to play TBH.

I know this might sound weird, but Age of Mythology Retold has been my go to if I just want to burn hours of my time and have a good time, specially in single-player skirmish matches.

I understand that might not be for everybody, specially those who are into highly competitive games, but for me Age of Mythology gives me that chill and relaxed gaming session that I crave after a stressful day. Nothing gives me more fun and enjoyment, than sitting around and building an empire and playing around with god powers like its ancient history. That sense of order and control atleast in the game, gives me the balance in life after dealing with a world that’s unpredictable and chaotic that’s beyond your control. This game gives me that and more. That’s why I’m loving it.

@AkoSiKitteh Yes, strangely enough these posts are often created by the same person who spends all his time complaining and finding problems where there aren’t any. I find it very strange to be so upset about a game. Anyway, enjoy the game!

I see. Welp, thankfully this post sort of balances out the negative posts in the forums with some positive post about the game atleast.

Now I will admit, prolly gonna post all my complaints about the game on a separate thread, but that comes later when I’ve fully played the game and saw every nook and cranny the game has to offer. But for now, just wanted to share how much I’m loving the game and all the wait has been worth it.
