I love the new dlc campaigns

devs really made a awesome job.

After i see the turkish mounted archers in first mission i turned crazy.
as we have byzantium, in the future I would love to see new campaigns ( ike conquest of constantinople etc.). Also a variant civ to ottoman would be really cool with mounted archers maybe.

Yeah, it’s a cool campaign. The part I love more is that AoE2 narrative Style. I still have to finish it, and If it weren’t for an unexpected business trip that takes me away from my computer, I would complete it today.

In fact, this style of narrative is so good, so much, that I dare say that if one day they make a campaign for the Mali civ, for example, considering the way in which they kept their history (oral tradition of Griots, with multiple variations ) It would be fun to see how the Griots tell the story of Sundiata.

The campaign units (Crusaders, Turkish Horse Archer, Spy) actually also inspire me to suggest many things to add to the game. Perhaps like other units that were added earlier inspired by campaign units (Hui Hui Pao, Wynguard Archer), perhaps this will allow base civs to have more unique units.

At least the Turkish horse archer seemed cool to me, it would be interesting as a new unique Abbasid unit, or else as a new mercenary type unit, I’ll explain that later.

Ottoman variant, with the same language and architecture, it only occurs to me that they could be the " Selyuk ", to represent the Selyuk Dynasty: From the Seljuk Empire (1037–1194) to the Sultanate of Rum/Rome (1077–1308), and the Anatolian Beylicates (1389); and change the epithet “Imperial Council” of the Ottomans to “Cavalry”, or something to replace the Visir points system. One of their unique units as you say could be the Turkish horse archer.

For the Abbasids and Ottomans, I think a solution to give them a horse archer for several civs without causing imbalance. It could be the “Mercenary System” and ####### for all civs, of course:

  • Limited to 3 or 4 units (Byzantines have 12 and Landmarks that boost them),
  • Cost a lot of gold or another resource, in addition to more population (balance) and
  • Only historical mercenaries (not Aztecs or Japanese for French for example, hehe).

A few examples come to mind, but I’m still completing the whole idea:

  • French: Genoese Crossbowman (II), Swiss Pikeman (III), Scottish Royal Guard (IV)
  • Abbasid: Beduin Skirmisher (II), Turkish horse archer (III), War Elephant (IV)
  • Ottomans: Azab (II), Akinci (III), Deli (IV)

About Ottomans mercenaries: As far as I know, the Azab (archer), Akinci (horse archer) and Delhi (light cavalry) were irregular units of the Ottoman army, which in theory did’nt go through the Military Academy, so they could not be created in one, but in mercenary camps.
