They keep working(even today),and if we check the steamdb,we can see all of those changes are really mean something, but until now we still can’t see something new comes out.
I start to believe it might be a patch in the future,it might be balance, fix bugs or even some new cards.
Just because they have no motivation or necessity to engage in voluntary labor. If they don’t want to make something new, they don’t need to do so many things before.lol.
Unless they say they’re working on a patch or something, they ain’t doing anything for AOE3 - they do not engage anymore with the community, so take that as a further signifier.
In all honesty, it’s much better to just see that the game has had all support stopped and enjoy the game for what it is/play mods / etc - it’s not worth the turmoil of holding onto hope for the game.
We need to see an official, solid product for that, as World’s Edge are not going to do the same stupid blunder as before - announcing DLC to get the AOE3 community spirits high whilst the other games got lots of attention before announcing a renege on it.
And infact the reason I looking forward to an update is just hope to see a card in age 4,this card can replace all of the falconet/organ gun/gatling gun to be a new kind of cannon. This kind of cannon similar to falconet, but don’t have limber mode.
I think this can make late game have more fun,and make the basic cannon more useful,it is also a kind of technology advance.
And I made a local mod,it can be an example(although I think the new kind of cannon shouldn’t have caseshot mode).
This is the cannon(I used the napoleon gun as the example):
Almost 0% chance it’s volunteer labor imo. I don’t think most American big tech companies would do that to their employees.
What seems more likely is an executive decided the cost of a patch was worth whatever good will they likely gain.
They probably don’t like having to block upset fans on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc because they know they’re people who normally would be spending money on the franchise. They probably didn’t want to spend more on AoE3 either, but if they saw income from the franchise going down after canceling the game, they may find that saving their money isn’t worth what they thought it might be.
Even with some AoE2 and AoE4 players coming to gloat after AoE3 got canned, I can’t imagine it (a game getting cancelled) was a good sign for the health of the franchise. Many AoE3 players basically said they were done financially supporting the franchise, but I could imagine some people who don’t play AoE3 seeing risks for their own game (2, 4, or AoMR) and potentially slowing their spending. That would seem like a pretty major issue for the executives managing the franchise.
Of course most of this is speculation, but none of it seems totally outrageous.
