Idea: Give scouts a variable move speed if they are grouped with other units. Scouts will no longer cause other units to slow down, but rather they will speed up if they are moving with units that are faster than it. Maybe it should be a researched technology?
Basically, one scout in your control group will not cause your entire cavalry mass to slow down. I feel that this idea is also fairly realistic.
I’ve become a bit frustrated recently while playing Sengoku horsemen as well as Macedonian horsemen. I really like to keep my scout with my cavalry mass because it gives the extra bit of vision, and I’m usually out on the map looking for damage, which provides scouting info in itself.
There is, however, a massive drawback. The horsemen will always slow down to the lower speed of the scout, which ruins the biggest advantage of cavalry, its maneuverability and speed. Especially with the Macedonian Hippodrome, which produces a special scout that buffs your existing cavalry, you’re punished if you group them together because of its slower move speed.
I feel like this would be a huge quality of life improvement. I understand that you could, with good enough micro, abate this problem for the most part. But I think it’s worth at least a researchable technology.
What do you think?
