It’s likely because they’re not meant to have a charge. The Shaolin Monk doesn’t either, they’re religious units first and foremost. Though, the Shaolin Monk is a “Battle Monk” rather than a “Religious Melee Infantry”, these tags seem underbaked and not thought-through in my eyes, as realistically speaking, both of them should likely have the same tag. So this suggests they made one tag for Shaolin Monks, forgot it existed, then made another tag for Ikko-Ikki.
While the Shaolin Monk did not use a modified infantry unit as baseline, the Ikko-Ikki did, which is likely why you’re seeing this bizarre interaction meaning it was originally an infantry that with charge, that they had to modify and disable. It begs the question if it is a bug or not, personally, I don’t see why a 1.5 movement religious unit built from a temple needs a charge on top of everything else they got going on. If the Shaolin Monk, which is objectively a worse unit, doesn’t have it, then I really can’t see why the Ikko-Ikki should.
The charge microstutter is a common thing seen in all infantry in the game. Palace Guard, Spearman, all of them stop briefly when engaging in a charge. A bug that has been around since the beginning of the game.
This is only true when you first do an attack move command with units while they are also in vision range of an enemy and never any time else. There is no other case that other units will repeatedly stutter with no further commands given, as shown in the video.
This is already in the game for Rus Warrior Monks, which are a religious unit with a movement speed of 1.62 that has a charge.
It’s very clear that the developers want you to use Ikko-Ikki as a part of your army rather than just monks that are harder to kill, which is the role that Shaolin Monks play. Ontop of having the “Melee Infantry” tag, it’d be extremely inconsistent for them to not have a charge, as there are no other “Melee Infantry” in the game that do not have a charge with the exception of the Serjeant, which has a ranged attack that does melee damage, not even a true melee attack.
