I’ll be completely frank with everyone here on this forum: if Activision starts selling any kind of content for AoE III—essentially monetizing anything, whether it’s revolution packs, standalone civilization packs, full expansions, or cosmetic packs for your Home City—I wouldn’t mind at all. AoE III is and always will be my favorite game in the series, and I would personally buy whatever they release for it. Now, if any of you don’t work and are the type who wants everything for free via patches, well, that’s a different story; games are a business, and they have never been a form of free entertainment—something many of us here should already know. Business is business, whether here or in China.
The issue is that the 343 Industries label was so toxic that they were forced to rebrand as Halo Studios. Not that it helped their image much. Many still referred to them as 343. The armor couldn’t hide that mark.
People are celebrating that Halo Studios/343 are no longer handling Halo. Some actually think Activision is the better option. I don’t see that level of contempt for a developer studio too often. They handled Halo for 15+ years, and we all know how that played out.
Actually, no. To put it briefly: several people here on the forum want a Independence Mode for the base game so they don’t have to pay for the Baltic DLC—which, my friend, is just an honest way of saying they don’t want to buy DLCs at all. Another thing I’ve noticed is that many got upset when the game stopped being “Free-to-Play” on Steam; once again, the community showed they just want things for free to avoid paying. And a third example is right here in this post, where people clearly state they disagree with Activision’s policies on monetizing franchise titles (assuming that is indeed the case with Activision). So, here we see again that the community doesn’t want to—or disagrees with—buying additional content. It brings us back to the main point: unfortunately, they want everything for free via updates. Some even get annoyed that certain DLC content isn’t included in the base game. I know all this because I’ve seen it throughout my time on the forum—and you, too, must have witnessed this kind of behavior from some community members. I’m not saying everyone is like that, but quite a few people complain and want specific DLC content to be available in the base game. Sadly, that’s just how it is, my friend. It’s not a personal issue for me, nor do I want to start a crusade like you suggested; I’m simply being realistic and stating the facts: people need to step up and accept that if they want new content, they have to pay for it.
As a tip, when you write, you might want to use Google Traductor so your comments come across a bit more professionally. With all due respect, most people here speak either English or Spanish; I honestly struggle quite a bit to understand your comments in French. That is why I use a translator to convert my words from Spanish to English—to make it easier for others to understand what I’m saying. You aren’t required to translate your comments—don’t worry—this is just a suggestion I’m offering, with full respect for your nationality. Best regards.
It’s easy to have a perspective looking in on something from the outside. But I wasn’t really concerned with defending (or attacking) 343. I simply don’t have trust in Activision to do any better, and recommended that if fans want the original Halo experience back, yet another new studio is unlikely to deliver that.
It’s kinda like World’s Edge being cut in half. Some folks have a very negative perception of WE, and that’s their right. But cutting WE in half is unlikely to improve anything for us, consumers of the products that WE manage.
Activision doesn’t own Age of Empires now. Age of Empires is still owned by Microsoft, it was never owned by Worlds Edge.
We are going from 3 companies to 4 companies influencing what happens in AoE. Xbox, Worlds Edge and Forgotten Empires are still there just that Activision is added to the mix. We have no idea how much the decision power is being moved. Does Activision just take over some of the deciding power from Worlds Edge or did they also take some deciding power from Xbox? We don’t know yet, and might never know.
While this is certainly not good news, they cancelled AoE5 after all, but I don’t think that means AoE will be turned into CoD now.
oh Zeppelino thinks google translate makes him sound professional that explains so much.
World’s Edge got a lot of hate for many of their decisions during the 2024-2025 period but it’s nowhere close to the amount of hate that 343 got.
The most controversial stuff with AoE2 was probably some of the DLC like Victors and Vanquished and especially Three Kingdoms. AoE3 we all know how that played out. No need to go over the DLC cancelation fiasco. AoE4 has all those variant civ DLCs with reused models, voicelines, etc. AoM Retold was handled well up until now at least.
AoE2 is safe. Activision wouldn’t be stupid enough to kill off the golden goose. I expect to see more DLCs in the style of Victors and Vanquished: campaign scenarios.
AoE4 DLC may consist of more civ variants. No surprises there.
For AoM and AoE3 it’s up in the air on what can happen. Cosmetic DLCs like new Explorer skins are the obvious way they could monetize AoE3 and I bet many people would actually buy them. New AoE3 civs take more work/money to make than new AoE2 ones so I can’t say for sure how Activision will handle that. If they believe it won’t bring enough profit, it’s game over.
Yes, there will be many DLCs for Civilizations, expensive and low-quality skins (made with AI)…if we currently have a battle pass, we’ll have a DLC every season (that is, a DLC every 4 months)…we would see a “Warzonization of the AoE and Halo saga” like what happened to CoD since 2020…

Yes, WE was doing well until 2024, then they started making serious mistakes throughout the entire saga (except AoM)…
Yes, they can make a lot of money from AoE 3 with explorer skins, like releasing Civs DLCs or even just campaign DLCs and volumes 3, 4, 5, etc., with explorer skins priced at $15-20, and that’s how the game will survive… AoM, on the other hand, I see as somewhat difficult… I’m not even worried about AoE 2, but AoE 4 depends on how its future develops with the Civs variants dlcs…
i pay for everything they have bright out and i’ve only played for a couple years, i’ve brought it twice over for both my microsoft and steam accounts to support the devs.
I agree with what your saying but having independence mode at least in the base game would help entice people to try it, they could of given you X amount of battles for free and then you have to purchase it. Maybe that is what activision will do?
There is some merit to this request up to a point; however, I want more DLC—we need more DLC.

Hey, hold on a second. Does anyone here know what happened to the seasonal events that usually accompany new expansion releases? Now that I think about it, it’s been a while since we’ve had an event from the developers; neither AoE II nor AoE III has had one in quite some time. I recall the last event was when the Mexico civilization was released.
Perhaps they want to go back to that…
impossible for microtransactions to work with a RTS game
they have done the same with StarCraft and failed
So they’ll just let the saga die, drown it, or turn it into a zombie saga receiving DLCs every 5 years, or simply leave it in maintenance mode (like AoE 3 between 2025 and 2026)…![]()
