I’ve bought aoe2de and now some friends of mine want to play it but they don’t have an xbox account. Is it necessary the xbox live gold or they need just an xbox account without paying the gold one?
I don’t know if it’s necessary because I’ve xbox live gold and I don’t know if without it I coulv have played multiplayer or not.

you don’t need an xbox account to play. If you buy it off steam the xbox account Is just there for achievements and tracking. Otherwise it just uses your steam id when you’re online. If you buy it off the Microsoft store then you’ll need a free account just to have an account to tie it to but you wont need gold, I don’t think you need a gold account for any online PC games, just xbox online.
